I'm stealing this from whomever said this a couple of days ago, but I think it bears repeating and its own thread:
Fred Akers was to offense as Rick Barnes is to offense.
year after year we kept calling into talk shows to gripe about the offense, specifically lack of creativity, and Fred never changed, barely had an offensive coordinator most years.
Here we are 30+ years later and we've got the exact same thing with Rick and company.
Rick is without a doubt the best basketball recruiter and defense expert we've ever had. But his offense, even this year when they started out looking sharp, has melted into some kind of awful stuff. Kind of like Fred's teams, we don't get stronger toward the end of the season.
The solution is obvious: Hire an offensive genius, let him do his thing, Rick keeps coaching the D and recruiting just like he's been doing.
It would be really exciting if the offensive assistant could help our guys with free throws also, but I'm not even expecting that.
can you imagine how good we could be with an offensive guru?
