Comparing Texas and KState Recruiting

After reading the post about KState to SEC, I got curious about recruiting classes at both schools. What I found is so amazing to me, I decided to give it it's own thread.

Here is what you get when you compare Rivals ratings for all the Texas and KState recruiting classes from 2007 through 2011. I did not include 2012 because those players have not yet participated in kicking our asses.

These are the figures. Un freaking believable.

Rivals Star Ratings:

5 ***** TX 8 - KSt 0
4 **** TX 73 - KSt 11
3 *** TX 28 - KSt 79
2 ** TX 2 - KSt 47

It's obvious how K State is beating us--adding up your numbers, they recruited 137 players to our measley 111. No amount of stars can make up for a deficit of 26 players.

That is a lot more hands and feet and eyes and and pounds and ......... They ought to be champs!

Are JUCOs included in those numbers?

It's apples to oranges in terms of how you recruit at each of those schools. Texas is in one of the top 3 talent rich states. Plus, it is regarded as a blue blood of college football programs. So we get the pick of the top players in our state.

The state of Kansas is not so talent rich. So Bill Snyder recruits JUCOs because he has to. Also, before Snyder K-State had one of the longest losing streaks in the country. They are not a traditional power.

K-State has been our kryptonite. When they played us, they've seemed to catch us on our bad day. I doubt they beat our 05, 08, and 09 teams.

Difference between Texas and Kstate recruiting is; Championship aspect. Kstate know, they will never win Championship and they never did. In Texas, we like to win it every year and we like to recruit that way. So, they are no comparison between two teams in term of recruiting. Yes, if you are satisfy with 8-9 wins ever year, you will have different recruiting philosophy. That exactly kstate philosophy is. Please next time don't compare to apples to oranges.

My bad UT4EVER. There is no doubt that Snyder is a amazing couch. There is a reason why they named the football stadium after him, while he is still coaching them.

My bad too UT4EVER. You're right, Snyder is an amazing coach. I think he should get in the College Football Hall of Fame if he isn't for turning K-State into a winner.

lcthorn, by your standards, we haven't had much to like the past decade because Mack's teams haven't won many championships of any sort - division, conference or NC. Mack is a better recruiter and has more resources than Snyder, but he is not a better coach.

My sense is that the 5-7 season woke up Mack. His replacement of underperforming staff with real asskickers who have authority to kick *** and not coddle has awakened the semi-sleeping giant that Texas had become. I cannot see this staff tolerating a loss to KSU, and but for the rash of injuries this season, Texas would have beaten the Wildcats.

We could be on the cusp of an era of dominance. The downside is the thought of how many NCs Texas could have won had the new policies and practices been implemented 10 years ago.

I'd just as soon not compare the Horns to K-State in any way until we prove we can beat 'em. K-State is UT's kryptonite...I actually respect them because unlike some other schools of late in the Big XII, they didn't run away from the challenge of playing UT and the paperclips, and their track record against the Horns more than measures up. Nobody else has owned Mack like they do.

It's a combination of player development and talent identification. A high school player is what he is. Bill Snyder knows a lot more about talent evaluation than the recruiting gurus. Evaluating Snyder on how well he recruits the players the recruiting experts identify as excellent would be like letting casual fans evaluate Olympics figure skating judges.

Snyder's an expert at making chicken salad out of chicken feathers, and year in and year out, he's the best head coach in the Big XII. I'm a Horn fan, but I seriously doubt Mack, or Stoops, could do up in little Manhattan what Snyder's done.

DKRBSTMS?

Hey, I've got a better idea. Let's hire Snyder away from Kstate, associate athletic director for junior college relations. Why not? We actually have a person in charge of high school relations?

Allow me to be a cry baby for a moment. We lost to them in 2011 because the refs were a ******* joke and gave them the game. We more than doubled them up in yardage and beat them in nearly every statistical category. Minus 2 TOs hurt but it wasn't the deciding factor. The refs were. It wad the worst refereed game since Grant Teaff's last game in 1992 when 2 quick whistles cost us 2 TOs and our lost cost us a bowl bid.

Somebody else said it...stats are for losers...sorta like moral victories. Snyder is our daddy...he's owned the Horns.
