Compare/Contrast - MMJ vs BOHs

As a big My Morning Jacket fan, I heard comparison regarding Band of Horses. Just got the new BOHs album and trying to figure out if they're a MMJ knock-off or have their own sound. I like what I hear, but just don't know if it's at all original.

They have their own sound.

The reverb seems to be the extra band member for both bands though.

The lead singer does more intricate stuff with how his lyrics and the music interact.

I don't know about anyone else, but I get a little Beach Boys vibe sometimes from Band of Horses.

MMJ>BOH IMHO.

I find differences.

MMJ has an emphasis on the guitars to me, as in a crazy great way.

BOH has an emphasis on the vocals.

I dig both.

different sounds, latest BOH album sound somewhat MMJ like but their earlier albums do not. Apparently the soon to be released MMJ is a departure album as well. new sound kids

They are both great bands. I guess there are some superficial similarities, but in general I don't think they sound alike.

I would never have thought to compare them in a way that suggests one is a knockoff of the other. Not even close.

We lived in South Carolina about the same time they moved there. We were lucky enough to see them live a few times. However, BOHS just can't compare to the MMJ live shows.
