Comic Book selling

Does anybody know anything about doing this? I have a crate of old Marvel and DC comics, from when I was a kid in the early 70's. Mostly Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Fantastic Four etc. ( I didn't read Thor cause I though he was a ***). I estimate I have around 500 or so, some as far back as 10 cent cover price (Superboy).

No kids in my future, no nieces or nephews to appreciate them, what do I do with them?
Sell on e bay one at at a time or in series?
Sell to comic book store in bulk?

I know i can get a comics price guide from the Comic Book Store and price them all, except I am unsure of the condition grading.

I also have a huge box of Archie and Walt Disney from my very younger days, unsure if they are worth anything or not.

Suggestions? Will the comic book store guys screw me?

If you are in Austin take them to Austin Books at Lamar and 51st. They guy will give you an honest appraisal and, if he is interested, make you an offer. Stuff from the early 70's should be in demand. If you have stuff from the mid 80's to mid 90's there is a glut right now, but 70's should be ok.

Only one way to find out. You don't have to sell if you don't like the price. Are they in plastic bags?

If you're concerned about getting ripped off at least check a price guide first, but expect to get around 50% of their value when selling to a shop. Personally, I'd still go the route unless you have a lot of patience. Selling the books one by one is going to be tough, and it seems lately the only comics holding their value have been professionally graded and sealed in those plastic cases (or at least thats the way it seems on eBay).
