Don't freak out in response to this. It's not meant to blaspheme or imply anything of significance. We all know who Texas has played and that VY played Ohio St. in game two of 2005. But... I was curious so I put these #'s together. I just thought it was interesting and thought I'd share.

VY (2005) vs. CM (2008)
stats through first 4 games of season.

Passing
VY = 54/82 (66%) 780 Yds (9.5 per) 7 TD - 5 Int (161.7 Rating)
CM = 80/100 (80%) 1018 Yds (10.2 per) 14 TD - 1 Int (209.7 Rating)

Rushing
VY = 48 - 310 (6.5 Avg) - 2 TD
CM = 34 - 278 (8.2 Avg) - 4 TD

Regardless of however you adjust for weak competition, Colt is playing at a very high level. Here's to continued improvement and to a great next three games.

Oh, and in case you're curious. VY's numbers, excluding Ohio St. and extrapolating 3 game averages to 4 game projections.

Passing:
48/70.7(68%) - 680 Yds - 9.6 Per - 6.7 TD - 4 Int (168.6 Rating)

Rushing:
37.3 Attempts -312 Yds - 8.4 Avg - 2.7 TD

Colt's running ability has been shocking really. His first four games are as good as any four game stretch in Texas history, IMHO (excluding Rose Bowls).

I don't really understand why people are so loathe to compare Colt McCoy to Vince Young.

We compared Ricky Williams to Earl Campbell.
We compared Hodges Mitchell to Ricky Williams.
We compared Cedric Benson to Ricky Williams.
We compared Limas Sweed to Roy Williams.

etc. etc. etc.

Why is Vince off limits?

Danger, Colt is starting to tread awfully close to that place where the "would he get drafted?" talks start. I still think of him as my favorite freshman starter and really can't imagine him leaving early, but I feel like people around him are going to start whispering if he keeps playing at a level where comparison to VY isn't absurd.
