COLORADO @ TCU - Deion Hype or Hope?

Me thinks he will raise their emotions and level of play this season. However, vs the Frogs, CU will get crushed in the heat!

Fox is carrying CU games the next two Saturdays, vs TCU and NU. Kinda hoping for beatdowns in both of their games. I really don't want the talk to be about Sanders all season.

I don’t know what to expect out of Colorado this season. All Deion needs to do is win one more game than last season to show improvement. No doubt that he’ll have his team ready to play. I wonder how many years he will be able to withstand if they’re not successful. Not many.

CU is broke. Remember this is the school where the president fired the coach then 30 minutes later asked, "We owe him how much money".

Clueless administration
Clueless fan base
Closed checking account

Fire Dieon and the applicants are likely narrowed to Art Briles, Todd Graham, June Jones, RichRod, a few of the NCAA's usual suspects.

Worster,

You need to think like a college administrator. Dieon will not win only one more game than last year, but rather he will win twice as many games as the Buffs did last year.

I can’t believe you don’t know the solution assuming the administration has a brain: hire nothing but Texas HS coaches for the coaching staff. Rotate every 2-3 years. Win-win for everyone. Lower cost too!

CU can treat these coaches like royalty at a lower price. The coaches will come, followed by the players. Everyone knows Texans love to vacation in Colorado. Well here it is for 2-3 years doing what you love already.

Deion is all-hype, all-the-time. That’s how he rolls. Chains, clothes and nicknames only take you so far. It may work at Jackson State but he’s going to get exposed as a coach playing with the big boys.

So you think.

Deion - this time you have done it - you have gone too far!! I will enjoy your fall from grace you fraud!!!

My prediction is that his record will be mixed - not as bad as people are predicting, but not an unqualified success either.

Who knows how CO will do long term, but I can't imagine them going from really s%$^ty to P5 competitive in the 1st year regardless of who they got in the portal. TCU may beat CO worse than Nicholls St.

TCU will crush them tomorrow, but I anticipate that they'll win 4 this year. They have too much speed for teams like Stanford and Wazzu.

Deion said something to the effect of "culture doesn't matter, having good players matters" so I'm curious to see what kind of culture develops out of that

I think it's hype and hope. My opinion is that Deon will upgrade CU from their 1-11 record (or whatever it was) but he'll never exceed, say 7-5 in their best years. That's a big improvement. But, meh.

Short term, Colorado will improve and become marginal

Long term, Sanders style will never get them over the hump and lose any appeal it has.

But that is why he will jump ship asap. If he can make CU marginally better he will need to bolt before expectations kick in. He’ll relaunch the hype machine at his next destination, keep his name in the news, and leave CU program in no better shape than it was when he got there.

That analysis has the ring of truth to it.

Being an arrogant loud mouth will only get you so far. Sooner or later you have to out coach the other guy.
Sanders has a certain verbal style that is over the top, for sure, but all arrogance isn’t empty. Look at Muhammad Ali. As a player, Deion talked the same way, but was legitimately, arguably the greatest of all time at what he did, perhaps like Ali.
As for coaching, wouldn’t you say it is admirable that he started in a traditional black league, learning how to be a Head Coach—for example contrast Charlie Strong—and succeeding at that level before moving up to P5? No matter how cocky his words have been, starting there showed professional humility, a willingness to learn the nuts and bolts of the coaching craft. And one obvious maturity in professionalism is that, unlike Strong, now that he’s getting a chance to go up the ladder, he has hired good assistants, not just his friends.
So, I think he is not a mere flash in the pan, but an aspiring coach who has worked his way up legitimately (winning two coach of the year awards in a lesser league).

You could be right. We will see soon enough.

Score Colorado, long methodical drive following TCU 3 and out. Hard to be sure whether Colorado has a good offense or they just have a discreet number of good plays. It does look like their WRs can beat TCU deep if the QB can get it there.

I watched Sanders play pro ball for many years. His play matched his mouth. I thought the frogs would blow out CU. Not because Dion is flashy and famous, but because TCU has a good, talented, team. Well coached and playing at home.
Thought CU would get overpowered, and worn down. I"m impressed with Sander's preparation and game management. Still think the Frogs will pull it out. But not with a route.
