collection letter-dispute or ignore

A collection letter was addressed to me, but at my ex-wife's work address. It is over 1200 bucks with original claimant being AT&T mobiity. I have always had t-mobile phone service, so this isn't mine.

Do I ignore it or dispute it? someone mentioned that if you dispute it then the statute of limitations is extended. Does that matter if it isn't my debt? I don't think it is ex-wife's debt either as she had t-mobile as well.

Clark Howard on CNN spoke on that subject a couple of weeks ago. Do NOT ignore. He has a web site on cnn.com and by alll means check it out. This is a way unethical collection companies are scamming and destroying the credit ratings of good people. This is a new scam.

Just one more thing on this subject. Clark Howard said when sending a response to the collection agency send it Certifield mail- return receipt and keep everything FOR EVER. Be sure to use the return receipt as the PO keeps their records for only a short periof of time.
