Again, this is another example of why a team needs to use all 15 of its allotted scholarships; injuries and player development are so unpredictable, and trying to make it through the season with a 10-11 player roster is just flirting with disaster.
That's a downer. Cokie looked really cut during the summer camp. I was expecting her to be a force inside along with AG.
Heal well and come back strong next season, Cokie.
Right now, look for Kat to slide down to the four and with Anne Marie to provide relief for both AG and Kat. Opens up another slot for a frosh to take advantage of.
Don't forget that 6-2 Kat has played inside a lot over the past three years. Harris is the next tallest Longhorn is 5-11. She played primarily in the post in high school. No question that post depth was thin this year and just got thinner with Cokie's injury. The wing guards are going to have to be strong rebounders this year.
i agree - not sure why coach g likes such a small roster - it is hard to go thru a season withhout injuries or just fatigue - depth is critical to winning - losing cokie is huge - will we be improved? - i'm not sure - i also have some doubts about whether we have the guard play to keep up with the better teams - and now no depth in the post position - coach g is an outstanding coach - no doubt, but i can't figure out why she can't get it going here - this will be her fourth season - it's time to step up - how much longer til the patience wears out - i know the class for next year is supposed to be good - so do we let her slide this year - i just hope it doesn't get ugly
Very sorry to hear about Cokie's injury and I wish her a speedy and successful recovery. Looking for a silver lining (as I always do) this adds another dimension to the 2010 class, which she is now effectively a part of. Of course injuries are never good but it's happened and we have to accept the situation and look ahead. I think everyone agrees the 2010 and 2011 classes are loaded with talent at both guard and forward positions, but the one missing piece in both groups was a top post prospect. Of course Cokie was just a year ahead of the current class and two years ahead of the Peoples/Enemkpali/ et.al. group, but that one year might make a big difference when all is said and done. Now we'll have these 11 players, Cokie included, on the court for a full three years together.
