It is a coffee shop designed by the kids from Apple & DWELL magazine with a little bit of KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" thrown in for good measure.
The Nodding Dog in Bishop Arts has a funky kinda feel. The coffee is good. The food is terrible and they need to clean it up. Service is also only ok, but if you go down to Tillman's, Hatties, etc., it's good for a non_Starbucks coffee.
I think that you can get a French Press at Murray St. (Just call and ask.)
I would have recommended my parents' house, but I took my BODUM French Press and my Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf Costa Rican coffee with me down to Buenos Aires. Lo siento. (I also brought my Braun electric tea kettle & coffee ginder with me. Again, sorry.)
Here in the Lakewood / Lower Greenville area - "Coffee Co." at 6038 La Vista Dr. I think it has a french press, but it has weird hours. I don't think it opens until 10AM.
White Rock Coffee is good - it's off NW Hghwy. I like the ambience there - usually quiet, good music, free wireless, good coffee.
Buzzbrews is great - love their food, and they have unlimited coffee, many flavors. Reminds me a lot of Austin, actually. It's tiny, though, and the place is packed on weekends. It's on the 75 access road and fitzhugh, basically connected to Best Western, and also has free wireless. I heard they share a manager with Cafe Brazil (which is also good, but bigger/louder/more crowded).
That's about it in ****** dallas. i haven't been able to find a consistently good and convenient place to study (I used to study all the time at Flightpath, which was perfect).
Legal Grounds in Lakewood. It's a law firm/coffee shop. Seriously. The guy who started it is a lawyer. You can buy some good coffee, and get advice on how to draft a will.
The Nodding Dog, in Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff is my fav. I always order a Black Eye (one shot of expresso and then fill it up with the darkest coffee they have).
