Anyone spent any time in or around Coeur d'Alene?

We'll be there during "Ironman Week", and have a cabin rented on Hayden Lake, just north of town.

The big event is on Sunday, June 22. We'll be there a few days before, and a few days after.

Me, Wife and pre-teen boys. Maybe an extra friend or two.

Any specific sights, places to eat, etc. that we should "not miss"?

I live in Spokane and spend quite a bit of time over in CDA. You coming at the absolute best time of year. If you haven't been up this way before you are going to be amazed at how long the sun is up.

If you have time, it is worth it to take the family over and do the Trail of the Hiawatha bike ride. I think it's about 40 miles east of CDA. The ride is 17 miles long and every last bit of it is one a slight downhill grade. You ride through several long tunnels and over multiple long span bridges. I've done it with my family for the last couple of years. My 5 year old was able to pull it off. You can rent bikes at the Lookout Pass ski lodge which is right off of I-90. You also buy your trail passes and shuttle tickets there. The shuttle will take you back from the bottom to near where you parked your vehicle. The scenery is amazing. If you do decide to do it, arrive at Lookout Pass early because the lines start to back up. Here is the site:The Link

I can't think of any place to eat that is outstanding over there. You probably want to skip anything Mexican or you'll be setting yourself up for disappointment. Try to have some halibut somewhere. That's the one thing they do right up here.

I have this to report.

My first girl friend back in grade school days was born there and named Coeur d'Alene.

She gave a report on the place to our class and said it was cool.

We all called her Corky.

Hope she's enjoying a good life.

I don't know anything about this place, but I've always thought that was the coolest place name I've ever heard.

It's not the same as it used to be. There used to be a stronghold up in Hayden, Idaho, but they somehow got sued and lost everything they had. I work with several hispanics and have attended events in CDA with them and there were no problems.

The town generates most of its revenue off of being a top tourist destination. The property values have gone through the roof so much that some of the people who owned property ten years ago have had to sell because they can't afford the taxes on the current market of their homes.

We have played the Coeur d'Alene Resort course several times and recommend it.

We normally play in the morning, take the old boats over from the Resort to the course, and have breakfast at the course befire tee off. Much preferred than eating at the Resort with all of the kids.
