We've offerred the 09 WR from Texarkana. Did he commit? I thought he was supposed to be in Okie State this weekend.
Are we looking to make him a TE or do we have a WR problem?
Didn't commit to OSU this weekend, but was in Stillwater. I think he's looking to make a decision in the next couple of weeks, with a visit to Austin being a strong possibility.
Interesting that we've offered Austin High WR Emory Blake only as a grayshirt, but we're reportedly making (or going to make) a late and unconditional offer to Hamilton.
Can someone exactly explain what is a "grayshirt"? I have seen this term used when a school gives more schollys than the allotted 25 a year. What does this mean?; the student pays his own way until a scholly is available or what?
i would personally save the WR ship and wait for next year. even if payne and webber transfer, we'll still have ship, kirk, collins, williams, and buckner to trot out there as a 5 WR set, with the possibility of a guy like desean hales or timmons coming in to spell. and of those guys, only ship is a senior next year.
in 2010, we are in good shape for some super studs in darius white, darius terrell, demarco cobbs, etc...
maybe someone that has seen cobi play can shed some light on this.
With the spread 4 and 5 WR sets becoming more and more a staple of the UT offense we will need to recruit more WR's than previous. Texas only took 1 in Timmons in 09. I don't see anything wrong with going out and getting another.
Especially if what I hear about Grant moving to TE is true.
If Irby is back and ready to go next season, I think we are pretty stacked with talent in the spread. Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see Fozzy as one of the tightly split receivers. He is athletic enough to catch and run, and he can motion and take a handoff. We have enough depth now that we don't need to make imprudent scholly offer. Not that I know anything about this recruit, but just saying, no rush.
I sure hope Mack will take a look at upcoming junior wr Tommie Morris at Permian. This kid is going to be a star. Every once in a while Permian produces a stud ala Roy Williams, the kid has that kind of talent if he progesses.
If Irby is back next season, it will be because someone with connections to the Holy Spirit laid hands on him.
I don't think people are understanding how severe a dislocated knee injury really is. There's a decent shot Irby never plays again.
Cobi Hamilton is a far superior project to Emory Blake, IMO. The kid has only played two years of football, so he is pretty raw, but he's come on his senior year of high school.
His parents are both graduates of Arkansas, and that's where they'd prefer him to go, so this isn't some kind of slam dunk recruiting job. It will be a challenge to pull him from Petrino.
He made a late decision to come to Texas for a visit instead of Auburn, so that's good.
We'll see what happens. I want him. Not badly, necessarily, but I think the kid has the potential to be a significant contributor the way Nate Jones was.
Oh, a grayshirt doesn't mean the kid pays their own way. It means they agree to enroll in the spring semester instead of the fall. One of the advantages of this for the kid is that they basically get another half year of eligibility. They still have a redshirt year, so they could theoretically be on scholarship for 5 1/2 years. That's the route Matt Anderson took, for example.
The disadvantage is that they have to put off their college career by at least the fall semester and the whole football season. That doesn't sit well with most kids.
In the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, there is this recruiting dude that has a section of the sports page that he writes about all the goings-ons with Hog athletes. He has Cobi quoted as saying that it is now between Texas and Arkansas.
I guess the visit to Oklahoma State didn't do much, but I think he was there for a pretty long time. Either way, this is a quote.
