Coach Washington's connections?

Are there specific players that Coach W has relationships with or does he have connections with AAU programs or both?

Please list some specifics if you have them.

As pointed out in another thread he coached at DFW Elite which obviously attracted a lot of star recruits, including Moriah Jefferson, Alexis Jones, Jordan Jones, Amber Orrange, Odyssy Sims, Brianna Turner and Empress Davenport. Former Horn commit Jada Terry was also a part of their program. Beyond the AAU realm he had a connection to Turner as an asst coach at Westbury Christian, although she transferred and played for Manvel last season. So he has worked with Brianna at both the HS and AAU level; she is likley a primary reason for his being hired. Turner and Caldwell are the big Texas targets for 2014; both are currently in the Hoopgurlz top 8. If our 2014 class doesn't include at least one (and hopefully both!) of these, it would have to be seen as a disappointment. But others have stated we're at the top of Caldwell's list, and if we can add Turner as well we would probably have the top class in the country.

Which will happen!
I think we will see a different team!
If the stamp of Aston is placed on the players, we got winner.

Looking at landing at least one of Caldwell and Turner is not unrealistic when the stated objective is to get the best of the Texas players who are among the nation's best to come to Texas. Both Caldwell and Turner are among the nation's best in the 2014 class.

Caldwell was at several Texas games after decommitting from Baylor. You have to think that she was seriously considering Texas before the coaching change. Now, well, we will have to wait and see if Texas continues to a school she still has high on her list. She certainly should be a player the coaches are working hard on due to her standing among the players elite and her past interest in Texas. Turner, I'm not sure she had that strong an interest in Texas before.

It will be interesting if either or both are at the elite UT camp this summer, assuming they are not involved in the USA teams during that time period.

Mooooo...I think Coach A is underestimated in terms of her understanding on what makes a championship program.

Just my opinion, but it is ALL about the talent level of the players.

Why do you think there was such a delay before the lat coach was added? Washington was hired to lure the next Clarissa to Texas.

No Post coach...NO problem if the right recruits come in.

Paradigm shift time for those that don't think coach W wasn't brought in with specific immediate results in mind on the recruiting front...And I don't mean wing and a prayer type hope either.

I'm just not sure the timing is conducive to signing marquee recruits right away, despite Washington's connections.

If you think about what just happened in the last month or so, we lost both our 2013 commitments, and signed two JUCOs. So, that means all 15 scholarships for 2012-13 are allotted (unless someone leaves the program). And, that would suggest we have no scholarships to offer for the class of 2013. Yet, Roshunda Johnson is visiting unoffiicially on June 1; gotta believe there will be some attrition.

As for 2014 (Turner and Caldwell), there isn't a lot of time for Texas to win them over. Either we have to have a great 2012-13 season for them to witness, or we have to sell them on the direction of the program. All this has to be done before they choose to commit elsewhere; Caldwell was once a Baylor commitment, so that tells you how early commitments occur.

It might actually be a blessing that we have more 'ships to offer for the 2014 class; that gives more time than if we had several open slots for the 2013 class.

I believe that coach Washington has connections farther into recruiting than any of us are seeing right now. He seems driven, organized, polite and knows his basketball. Not to mention that he is a caring father of 4, and he will be a great communicator to the young ladies here at UT as well. I think we should all be excited for these new coaches and everything they bring to THE University of Texas

Definitely exciting considering how much work there is to be done by an up and coming staff. Can't wait for them to prove the naysayers!

Also, a point for Moooo, I do believe that KA was the post coach for UT when she was here as an assistant under Jody, and during that time we had some pretty good post play... If I am not mistaken she was also the post coach when Texas went to the final four and won their big 12 titles.

Also I believe Jalie Mitchell to have some post experience, and I believe that Travis and George will get the guards in shape too.
