He seems to be able to work with anyone
Think of the parade of characters who have rolled through there
Talking about DCs, aside from the hot names, who has a reputation for doing more with less?I have always liked Boom but frankly, I thought Chizik was more effective at Texas.

We hear the hot names at this time every year. For me it’s very difficult to differentiate quality from notoriety.

Back to Boom, with Bama’s level of talent, who couldn’t do a good job there?

Part of the TFB update --

Will Muschamp – He was the top guy. Reports are out saying that Muschamp is going to sit out this year. However, I am being told that this isn’t the case. I’m hearing that Saban wants to get the band back together and that Muschamp is likely to headed to Bama after the NC to take over as DC there.

Dan Quinn – Have heard he currently holds a Texas offer and is the new top priority. Quinn had a brief stint as the Florida DC but for the most part has spent the past two decades in the NFL. I was told last night that Quinn has a DC offer from the NFL. So, he’s going to have to decide whether he wants to be in college or stay in the NFL. Folks I spoke to believe he will stay in the NFL but that’s just their opinion.

Zach Arnett – Am told Mississippi State DC, Zach Arnett is the next option after Quinn. The Terry Joseph hire is interesting though because I had heard Arnett was going to try to bring one of his secondary guys from one of his previous stops. Not sure if that would be a deal breaker. I’m told Arnett is also a potential target for the Oregon job so either way Texas will have some competition. A source close to Arnett told me he’d likely pick Texas over Oregon but again, if Sark isn’t going to let him bring his secondary guy, I have to wonder if that would things in favor of Oregon.

I'd have kept Ash over any of these guys. We were coming together with far less talent than was required.

I agree.
I don't think we should get Quinn because he would have to settle for a lot less money and he might be itchy to move on the following year.
But at the same time I wouldn't mind getting arnett would not hurt my feelings.
Either Ash or arnett. We will see how it shakes out
I don't really know anything I don't have any information I'm just a squirrel chasing a nut/information.

Welcome to the club...occasionally sounding reasonably intelligent, riding on the coattails of Joe Fan and others...

(At least I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once before Covid hit.)

Putting 2 and 2 together, it sounds as though Sark may not share the high opinion of Ash that others in the wide world of sports have offered.

Probably. I would like to know his reasoning why. Muschamp and Freeman are out, so I don't know why what's left would be any better than just keeping Ash.

Roach says "substantial conversions" between Texas and Tosh Lupoi.
But he will not be offered defensive play calling duties. He wants to be DC and play caller, and use that as his path to become a HC. So, ....
Then Roach mentioned Oregon as a landing place, which made me wish I had not been drinking a sip of coffee at the same moment.
