Now that Notre Dame has won it third NCAA title, does Petrucelli regret the decision to come coach in Austin?

Will all the talent in the state of Texas in soccer, not only has Texas under performed...A&M has done the same thing. Yes, A&M has a lot of Big 12 titles, but even when they are a top 5 or top 10 team, they can't seem to get over the hump with much better players than TEXAS.

There has been talks about coaches and their recent success or lack there of.......coaches who have been mentioned are: Bev Kearney, Connie Clark, Gail, etc.......

Although the coaches above have had trouble in their sports, they have had success at the top. Bev has had many big 12 and nc titles, connie has taken her team to the WCWS several times and has won the Big 12 with powerhouses like OU and A&M in the middle, and Gail had a great deal of success at Duke (not so much here, but she is still very new).

Petrucelli has been at TEXAS now for a really long time. He has ONE big 12 regular season title to show for and 3 tourney titles. He has very few sweet 16 appearances.

What do you guys think the problem is for this program??

Good question. He leaves ND and they dont skip a beat. Texas has been pedestrian for a long time. Dan Hawkins was great at Boise, but we all know how bad he was at CU.

Maybe Petrucelli just isnt that good. Texas has tons of talent. No reason this isnt a top 5 team year in and out in womens soccer.

The ironic thing in all this is that right after Jody Conradt hired Petrucelli away from Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish hired Baylor's Randy Waldrum, a native of Irving, TX as their head coach. Plus, he comes to Texas and recruits some incredible players like Melissa Henderson, among others.

The Link

It might be time to try luring Notre Dame's coach back home to Texas . . .

Texas Softball has been to the WCWS 6 times!!! All under Clark. You also have to remember that Texas didn't field a team until 1996.

Like I said...... Clark would not be the first to go. She has the conference titles and the WCWS appearances.

Petrucelli??? 1 champ, 3 or 4 sweet 16.....unacceptable!

I thought it was 4 times according to SID.

We are not a national power in softball and we have not been to the WCWS since 06 and it is looking doubtful we will make it this year. Unacceptable. I don't buy the "it's only been a sport since 1996" crap. 15 years is more than enough time to build a national championship team.

@overmars

I totally disagree. UT's problem isn't recruiting too many players from Texas, it's the fact that UNC, Notre Dame and other programs poach too many of the good players from this state. Coach P's problem is that he tends to recruit better in CA than in Texas. He needs to do both well. Look at A&M's roster. It's primarily Texans. Coach P needs to recruit more studs from in-state. Texas high schools produce some elite talent. A lot of those players are not coming to UT.

PS the top offensive player AND the top defensive player for the All Tournament team for the NCAA Final Four are both from Texas (and attend Notre Dame)

Texas has got to do better with the club coaches as they are the gatekeepers in soccer. Yes they all have their hands out, but someone has got to find a way to work with them.
