Coach G

I had a very interesting conversation with some fellow coaches this past weekend during my stay in Dallas and I frequently mention topics and things discussed on this board. I often speak to all the flack that GG gets from a few posters and although we disagree for the most part one coach asked a great question...."If they think GG has done such a terrible job, think back to when she was hired and tell me who should they have hired in her place that would've actually made the move"

This is a great question, so to anyone who disagrees with the direction of the program this far, then please provide insight to who you think would've been a better hire

I have always stated that I personally expect them to compete with everyone in the league and I would be shocked if we didn't sweep ou and tech based on the physical talent they have returning, and expecting a split with baylor and aggie. There is no reason they should not be a top 15 team this year. And I believe all of my posts have suggested that thus far. I was merely speaking to those posters who believe that someone else could've done a better job.

I think one problem we have in this program is half of the applications for the next head coach will hit the shredder. Men need not apply.

I personally dont believe that there will be a need for a "next" HC. But if there were, I know that CP is not opposed to hiring a male coach if he is the most qualified/best fit

I don't care if the next coach is an ameba from some astroid as long as they represent everything the University of Texas stands for and wins.

At this point, I'd rather see an Amoeba coaching Texas than what we have now. Texas deserves better than a 32-32 Big XII conference rcd, 0-11 record vs A&M.

I still look forward to the season.I amazed that we are discussing a coach for next year. And this season has not even started! Be positive for the Coaches and the players. We got a great group! Support them until you see otherwise.Give them a chance at least. Be Positive! I luv the players we have.

Again, viper and Seattle....you are quick to provide the comments but not answer the primary question. Who could've done a better job in your opinion?

utfanforlife, I answered - the choice of the coach at the time isn't the issue, and you know full well that isn't what is being discussed. It is the 4 years of mediocrity, and your defense of that mediocrity that are the issues.

As I said, who the coach is isn't the concern. A Texas program not being competitive is the issue.

Viper only cares about Texas winning with class. BabHorn your constant justification for not winning is either playing underclassmen or injuries. Injuries happen and winning with underclassmen does happen.

This is a fresh start fans! A new year. Why so negative! Let them play and then in the middle of the season start trying to form, what type of team we will be.

I'm looking forward to a great season and I hope Coach G proves all the critics wrong. I like her and I want her to succeed. That said I'll take the bait and answer the question: Kim Mulkey. Great recruiter with strong connections to high school coaches in Texas. She gets the best recruits. Gail must build pipelines to DFW and Houston to be successful. Not sure we could have lured her away but she's one of the best in the business.

Good question, I know Pokey is not and was not a choice but still Pokey Chatman, Jeff Walz, Nikki Caldwell, Chris Dailey, Cynthia Cooper.

I think some other good coaches in the making if they decide to coach after WNBA career Sue Bird, Becky Hammon and Kara Lawson.

Nope. The issue with the program is mediocrity of the program. Results have not changed so there is an institutional issue that has to be uncovered and corrected. Who the new coach is, was or wasn't is obviously immaterial.

there is no question this is a big year for coach g - bigger issue is all the average performances allowed by other coaches who have been here longer -specifically the soccer coach and the softball coach it has been way past time for a change - lopiano had it right when she said with all the advantages both in facilities and money, there is no reason not to be in the top ten - there needs to be several "shake ups"

Agree L4UT. There's a different standard for women's sports. Mediocrity is allowed to linger longer than on the men's side. I hope this is finally the year for Coach G and the women's program. How sweet it would be to spank A&M on their way out the door.

There is no dodging. The coach isn't the issue, the lack of results is the issue. The AD chose the coach she thought could make Texas competitive. That is what she is paid to do. However Texas Women's Basketball isn't competitive in their conference so the issues are why and how long can Texas proceed down the current path. Pretending everything is fine is denial under any definition.

Also as other have indicated, there are other programs in the same position. There is zero reasons for any Texas athletic or academic program not to be the best in Texas.

I do agree, we tend to allow Coaches that are not producing to stay too long as the Coaches. But GG is fine! Look at Softball,Soccer I was a lil worried about BK with the Track Programs, but shes coming along just fine!
