Cloverfield Monster Guessing Game

The producers of this movie have done a very good job of keeping the monster secret, as far as I know anyway.

Let's all guess what we think it is and see who gets the closest.

I think it might be the smoke monster from L O S T
 
I can see Cloverfield becoming a series and going the way of Gamera series, with the Cloverfield monster becoming a friend to small children.
 
hmm, the fan art i love the most is the sweet whale/squid/t-rex combo, with parasites looking like huge ticks. that is some scary ****. **** you, slusho.

the AICN review specifically said it was NOT that, but you know...

For some reason (probably subliminal) I get the idea that the monster is a cross between a live action Iron Giant and a sea creature with withdrawn, sunken eyes.

I also have a pretty good idea this movie will be good for about 15 seconds and then turn into a turd.
 
If ever there was a thread that set on a tee the smart *** answer joke series, this is it.

It will have to be distinct from Godzilla so as not to appear to be a ripoff.
 
You know what would be awesome? The Cloverfield monster just wrecks the city for an hour plus and then at the very end the Woodland Critters come out and the Cloverfield monster kills itself.
 
yeah, i'm not sure how the head of lady liberty hitting a building would cause a huge explosion.
