Clothing Donation Pickup?

Is there anyone in Austin who will come by your house to pick up clothes? ARC of Texas does, but they can't come by for a few weeks. Thanks.

I would recommend that you just take the clothes to Goodwill yourself unless you actually like getting weekly phone calls asking if you have clothes to donate.

In Dallas, when I was moving, I observed organized theft by the Goodwill attendents and outside conspirators.

I dropped off some goods and sensed one of the attendants was disturbed by my presence. So I parked my car in the crowded grocery parking lot and watched.

The two attendants move some large speakers out of the trailer to behind the little fence. Standing in the doorway of the trailer, one looks as though he is talking to the other and points to the large drink cup.

I take it this was some sort of sign as he then leaves the trailer area and a Suburban pulls up. The remaining attendant then helps the driver load the speakers into the vehicle.

It's a quick transaction, no chit-chat.

I followed him as he drives off, at one point he detects me and attempts to shake me. Thinking he has he proceeds. But though the road split, there was a cut-through in a shopping center parking lot. I was soon back behind him and trailed him to a home on the southeast side. The driveway was lined by a variety of goods.

Having seen enough, I decide to drop off my future donations at another location. On my first trip there I dropped off some items and the attendant told me to leave them behind the fence. On the next trip, I notice they're gone.

A pickup truck pulls up behind the trailer and a girl gets out, but spots us on the steps and returns to her truck.

We proceed to drive off but I'm looking back. I see the girl sweep under the trailer -- with the attendant watching from the steps --grab some full plastic garbage bags, duck back under the trailer, throw the goods in the back of the pickup and drive off.

Looked like a scheduled, but unauthorized pickup.

I contacted Good Will and told them what I saw but I do not know if anything came of it.

I make a point of donating to Goodwill inside the store or at the (at least at the one near our house anyway), rear loading dock dropoff.

There's a trailer out front of it, but I've also seen stuff set to one side for no apparent reason there.

Pretty sad when you have to worry about stuff you don't even care about anymore getting stolen from the charity you're donating to.

I'd report it to Goodwill and the cops.
