Clearing Memory on Old Computer

My new computer is in the shop so I am trying to get by with a 6 year old computer. Obviously it is slow and grandma. What can I do to speed it up? What all can I dump and how do I do it? I am sure it has tons of old internet files and games. Do I just uninstall what I don't want?

If it's 6 years old and slow - it's probably way under-powered and living on too little memory and an old Intel chipset. Translation: It would probably cost you way more than you'd want to spend on upgrading the chipset and memory just to get it to run marginally better. That would be just a guess on my part.

I suppose it depends on how long you're going to be inconvenienced by your other machine in the shop. I don't like trying to upgrade old old machines (yes, 6 years is old old) - because you don't really get much bang for your buck at that age.

you could format and re-install the operating system (if you still have the cd, that is
