Class ring resizing

I need to bump up my Texas ring one size. I know Balfour will do it for free, but I am very leery of sending a 20-year old ring with a ton of sentimental value through the mail. I already lost the ring for five years before it was returned (long story) after being found in a SUV of mine that was totaled by a semi truck.

Has anyone ever had this done and can recommend a solid jeweler who does good work? Or as anyone ever walked into Balfour instead of mailing it?

Thanks

Don't take it to a jeweler, you'll void your warranty. And it really doesn't make a difference if you walk it in or not, because they are going to ship it back to you. But, if you walk it in to a local office, that takes out 1/2 of the shipping issue.

I took mine to the Austin office summer before last for re-sizing. They shipped it back to me in Houston. I was Class of '69 and didn't realize how new they can make your ring look, even after this many years. They even eliminated most of the little dings that had accumulated.

Very pleased.

I also dropped off my ring at the Austin factory. I had used the wrong kind of cleaner on it which took all the "antiquing" off. They resized it, re-antiqued it and shipped it back to me, all at no expense to me.

Kind of a strange experience, though. It turned out to be around quitting time when I dropped it off. Many armed guards around, everyone had to go through metal detectors, all purses, backpacks, etc., had to be individually checked and were see-through plastic.

Can't trust anyone these days.

Where in Austin did y'all drop it off? They keep telling me I need to send it in and there is no drop off.

Their factory is out on South I-35. You have to walk around looking for the main entrance (they don't have a reception area) and office. Sooner or later, someone will ask if he/she can help you.
