Circuit City

We all know that Best Buy and Circuit ******, et al are lousy stores, but this one takes the cake. I bought a projector from Circuit ****** and they sold it to me for a small discount because it was missing the manual. The salesboy said it may have been returned without being used.
Well, I plug it in and start trying to figure it out without the manual and one of the features it has it a counter to tell you how many hours the lamp has been used. EIGHT HUNDRED TWELVE!!!

That's over one hundred days being on from 9 to 5. They gave me all kinds of **** about taking it back, too. They variously claimed it was a floor model (lie, since they don't have any that turn on. In fact, they are only replicas of projectors) or that it was returned by someone or that it had just been opened to check it out or that it was refurbished and they don't know how it got 800 hours on the lamp.

Scumbags.

Wow. A good friend of mine used to work there. He was there a long time and sold a whole bunch of stuff because he knew his products and people. He would only suggest things that he thought people could use, like and would enjoy within the range they told him they could spend. He got tons of return business and word of mouth, even in the days of commission. His work ethic did not falter one second when they no longer worked on commission, he kept helping best he could.

He had been there awhile so was making a good hourly wage. They fired him because they felt the need to replace him w/ 3 less paid per hour stools who don't know where to put batteries in a remote. I saw this one day before he got fired.

So I won't go there. This does not surprise me as this is their new way of doing business. Very different from the past and even then, sort of shady. If there were to be a real Fight Club scenario, I would want both those places to be on Tyler Durden's list.

I guess it just doesn't pay to try to sell value.

I could have undestood a few hours, but over 800? That's just sleazy.

use your local dealers. alot of them are family run and give a **** about their customers. they are part of buying groups, so they can get prices pretty close to what the big guys get.

except when they knowingly rip you off. did they finally let you exchang the worn out model they sold you? take their ******* asses to small claims court if they didn't.

I have never had a problem with returning items at Circuit City. I have had numerous problems with Best Buy. Is it possible that the salesman did not know how many hours were on the projector?

I never thought Circuit City could suck more than Best Buy, but they proved me wrong. I tried to buy a laptop there a few months ago, but the staff was so ignorant and incompetent I walked out after a brief yet explicit critique.

I am sticking to Sam's and Costco whenever I can for electronics. I ended up buying my laptop from Costco for a much better deal than at Circuit City, plus Costco has a 6 month, no questions asked, return policy before any manufacturer warranty begins.

That is really ****** business on the projector cause the way the bulbs wear out and are so expensive to replace.

BTW, some posters here turned me onto fatwallet.com and techbargains.com and they have both saved me a bunch.
