Chronicle's List of "Former" Longhorns

Pretty amazing sample here. Some thoughts on this list:

1) Pulitzers...check, Oscars...check, Grammys...check, Emmys...check, Tonys..check. The list doesn't even include Nobel laureates (two alumni, and 4 more who were researchers or faculty at Texas when they received their prize), and Medal of Honor Winners (Russell Steindam)

2) Notables left out: Tommy Tune (Tony winner), Adm William McCraven

3) Really impressed by Bob Crippen...you don't get much more "modern" Texas than growing up in Beaumont, becoming a combat naval aviator/ test pilot, and piloting the first Shuttle test mission where you have no idea if the thing will work or blow up, and then being inducted into the Astronaut Hall of Fame....a real Space Cowboy.

4) General Tommy Franks went to UT Arlington.

Can't believe I forgot Barbara Jordan. J Frank Dobie wasn't an alum, but the guy has just as much a claim as some of the others who studied at Texas for a short time or just got a certificate.
