I have a few thoughts concerning aggy and their newest 5 star recruit: stud Beaumont RB Christine Michael.
The first thing that you have to realize is that he is the first 5 star recruit they have snagged since Martellus Bennett in 2005, and only the 4th 5 star (according to Rivals) that has signed with their program since 2002, which puts him in great company with Reggie McNeal and Jorrie Adams. Serious company, huh?
1) Does this guy end up being any kind of factor in the Big 12? With the right team, I say the sky is the limit. He obviously needs a good line. Aggy doesn't really have one. Also, he needs a team that has a defense that is worth a darn so as to keep the opposing team's defense on the field long enough to give him the opportunity to really wear them down for some huge 4th quarter gains. Aggy doesn't have that either.
I'm not saying that the kid made a horrible choice, but looking at what Javorskie Lane, Stephen McGee, and Michael Goodson did during their careers (not much) I just can't understand why he went to A&M. OU and Texas have basically taken all the elite Texas Olinemen, so Michael is going to have an uphill battle with that.
2) I also wonder too... will we stoop to their level and have a cute/ girly name for him like they do with all of our star players? We've had Radio, Cart McCry, Cedric Bongson, etc... but short of Reggie "The Real Deal" McNeal (which we called him out of jest and the name wasn't made up by Texas fans) we haven't, as a fan base overall, done that all that much.
It's not like he doesn't already have a traditionally female name, it's just that I wonder if we will actually make fun of it? We did with Javorskie, but like all aggie jokes, they just wrote themselves with all of his crying and ballooning up and underperforming for the past 2 seasons. We can't take too much credit for that given basically everyone was making fun of that dude.
So do we jest at his name or do we save that for the aggies that basically have blackbelts in giving stupid nicknames?
