espn put up a youtube interview with chris barnett two days ago where he talks about his commitment to ou.

chris gives the interviewer a list of schools he intends to visit before he commits for real: miami, florida state, florida, alabama, and maybe usc. my gosh, why isn't he shown as soft to the sooners with that schedule of visits ahead of him?

another thing on barnett. espn posted a report by gerry hamilton on the dallas ua combine and he says in his blurb about chris: 'The 6-4, 244-pound Barnett ran a 4.97 40-yard dash and leaped 30 inches.'

i came across the youtube interview because of reading that line from gerry's report. i was hoping to find footage of him that would belie that 4.97 as being really definitive.

these 40 times are often way off. we see, for example, that mj mcfarland is listed on rivals as having a 'verified' 5.37 40 time which would suggest that he plods like a not very fast offensive lineman. the youtube we saw of him certainly doesn't look like a plodder.

one more thing from gerry's report. he says anthony wallace is 6-0 not the 6-2 we see on rivals.

anyway, thought you would find this stuff interesting.

something else gerry says.

he says franklin shannon is actually 5-11, not the 6-2 reported on rivals.

hmmm . . .

more on that, too. gerry says barnett is actually 6-4 not the 6-6 shown on rivals.

hey, if you watch the mcfarland youtube, besides noticing the great hands he has, look for the spin move about two minutes in.

word is that chris barnett is trans back to a.m. smith. it makes you think twice about a kid who left the school where his dad was a coach and now is going back. now he wants to visit other places. not sure this kid knows what he wants to do.

i hadn't heard that, affie. any scuttlebutt on why?

i certainly don't see chris as a jackass, but i am puzzled by his behavior. his dad really comes off as a great guy and a great dad.

i remain puzzled also by the reports of relatively slow 40 times for chris and mj. i don't want to get a '40 controversy' going on this board like it has on another horn board, but it becoming clear that reported 40 times should come with a yawn.

Looks like things didn't work out for him at Euless Trinity. Maybe this kid has made a regrettable decision or two. It's not so easy being in high school, dealing with peers, transition and making momentous decisions about your future.

yes, the dmn is reporting that he withdrew from trinity.

and an ou fan comments that the ou staff wasn't happy with chris before this development. you have to wonder whether the sooners were unhappy with him because he is talking of taking visits or whether he is talking of taking visits because they are unhappy with him. also possible that chris is the one that is unhappy because of reported sooner interest in austin seferian-jenkins. we know how the sooner staff gets stiff over any kid named austin.

interesting that the resident ou apologists who hang around here are mum on this subject.

well, the barnetts seem like good people and i certainly hope that things settle out for chris. reports are that he is a talented player, and i hope he finds the situation that works for him. i say that thoroughly without regard to our having his brother on the team.
