'Choripan'- discuss

First of all, what is a "Choripan"?

Chorizo (spicy/fatty sausage) + pan (section of French bread) = CHORIPAN

I probably hadn't eaten sausage for about 8-15 years before coming to Argentina, but they kind of changed after a few weeks of being here. Today I introduced them to a friend of mine (girl) who lives in LA and who hadn't eaten red meat or pork for a few years before this trip.

She insisted that I not tell her what was in it, but that she was simply going to enjoy it. Other than the bone or tooth (?) that nearly broke my bottom crown and my top filling on one side, our choripans were delicious. Of course I was burping up choripan for another 3-5 hours, but it was good.

1) Anyone ever had a Choripan?
2) What did you think?

I'll take my Andouille or Boudin, thanks.

Then again, a good snausage is a good snausage no matter how many chicken lips they have to grind up to fill that casing.

Choripans freaking rule.

We ended up in some rinky dink town in southern BA province one weekend afternoon. We wandered into their local rodeo ("rural") weekend. Parade of gauchos, all that stuff. And a fair on the square, with a couple of choripan booths. A couple of choripans with a cold Quilmes made for a nice lunch.

The sausage they use is a lot like the Brazilian linguica -- a bit of a coarse grind, and kind of salty. Totally different from our Central Texas german and czech stuff. I like it.

Oh, we also got some pictures with the rodeo queen and her court. Beautiful 18 year old Argentine women in fancy dresses on horseback. If you didn't want to move there before . . . .

Dude -- I'm married and was with my wife. So I kept it in my choripants.

But if I were a single dude looking for top-notch marriage material, I could do a lot worse than to spend some time in B.A.

World class women, wine, and beef. It's heaven for males.

near and dear to my heart.... I'm glad that you've discovered them there.... the choripan is basically the Argentine hotdog, only that doesn't do it justice.... that **** is phenomenal...

FYI.. if you live in Houston and want some Argentine sausage you can head over to Gianotti's Pasta Factory in the SW/Bellaire area of Houston... they are only open until 6pm though... pick up some sausage, gnocchi, and whatever other fresh pasta they have in the cooler to take home and sit down and order a milanesa to eat there... if you get the milanesa sandwhich order it "a la napolitana", if you get it as a dinner plate then just get it plain....

The existence of the choripan proves one of Brisketexan's maxims: The sausage wrap is nature's perfect food.

It is ideal while fishing, at a tailgate, wandering fairgrounds, hanging in your backyard, running out the door to make a meeting, sitting in a duck blind, standing around a bbq pit telling lies, etc.

I wouldn't trust any culture that doesn't put some sort of sausage-type meat on bread.

Ldogg - we need to go back to Gianotti's sometime or visit the new Marine's Original Empanadas that just opened in the Carillion on Westheimer.
