I got some spam from Orangebloods which I promptly deleted that said Chip is now writing for Ketch? Anybody know what's up with that? Is he no longer employed by the DMN?

Correct, Chip no longer works for the DMN.

From what I hear, Chuck Carlton is going to kinda, sorta cover the Horns for the DMN, but he won't live in Austin.

If that's true, Statesman and San Antonio Express are the only two papers who will have a writer in Austin full-time.

Newspapers in general are not doing well at all.

My brother in law, Wendell Barnhouse, worked for the Ft. Worth Star Telegram for 25+ years and for the last 10 or so has covered the NATIONAL College football and basketball beat. They no longer were able to support that, so they would have reassigned him.

He is now working for the Big 12 as their "Insider" and correspondent. Currently, he and his videographer are making a trip to all Big 12 campuses, so go read his stories and view the video on the Big 12 website. As I understand it, the Big 12 is the first conference to do this dedicated media type thing in covering their own schools on a daily/regular basis, with both features and video.

Jonathan Feagan when he was the Big 12 writer for the Houston Chronicle covered the Horns almost exclusvely. He broke many stories. He now is the Rockets beat writer and Big 12 coverage in the Chronicle has never been the same.

Having been a member of the media covering UT football a couple years back, I can say Chip was one of the hardest working journalists and one of the best beat writers. But sometimes his gelled hair and shiny black shoes were a little over the top.
