Chicago politics

Any campaign that didn't conduct opposition research on opponents' million dollar donors would be headed by someone too incompetent to get somebody elected president of the United States.

You call that "Chicago-style" politics but do you think Karl Rove of Texas would have any qualms about going there?

National politics is a hardball sport and it's not like "Restore Our Future" has shown some exemplary moral code when developing attack ads against Romney opponents. I don't see anyting unAmerican about a man donating $1 million to a SuperPac deeply engaged in cynical nasty politics to be the victim of cynical, nasty politics.

I'll admit that it seems unseemly that Obama's name get attached to this. Why can't he just let some "Swift Boat" like organization do the dirty work and leave him clean.

I was wondering if anyone would defend such behavior coming from the office of the President. I guess I shouldn't have wondered. Nixon clearly had his die hard proponents as well.

I campaigned for Nixon's opponents in 1968 and 1972 and delighted in watching the Watergate mess unfold on TV as a high school student. But as I read history I've come to believe Nixon had an incredible amount of guts and political skill. Read about his Checkers speech on Wikipedia. If you're like me, you'll be just a little sad we don't have anyone with that much Chutzpah on the national stage anymore. Newt Gingrich is as close as we've come lately. But Gingrich, with a compable political intelligence, lacks Nixon's drive and self-discipline. Too bad Nixon lost perspective and became corrupted once he gained power.

OK -- Just to be clear. I think Obama stepped over the line in naming the guy on his campaign website. I"m not defending the president.

The anonomous opposition researcher (at least I never heard of him) is doing the ground level research important to good politics. Looking into people's records may seem unseemly, but if you read "We're with Nobody" written by a couple of opposition researchers, you'll at least realize they have a code of ethics and find real information, rather than making stuff up like too many campaigns do these days.

They've already tried to publically label this guy as a racist/bigot/whatever with no other reason than that he donated to Romney.

Hey, what goes around comes around. You think the Superpac (not the official Romney Campaign) is going to spend that million dollars on red white and blue bunting? I expect they are going to use it to attack Obama, if it hasn't already been spent attacking Gingrich and Santorum. I see unrestrained, unaccountable spending from superpacs as a bigger threat to good government than looking to embarrass the gozillionaires that fund them.

One of these days, the corrupt slapdicks of the MSM need to marched into the streets and publicly shamed for the destruction they've caused, much like the French did with Nazi collaborators after WWII.
