Chemical/Paint disposal

Did anyone experience the cluster that was the Saturday chemical/paint disposal at Anderson High School this Saturday. I was in line, (i guess) all the way back up to Spicewood Springs Rd for an hour before i just said screw it and abandoned it.

What the hell?!! Seems there is a GREAT need for this service? I fear that because it was so disorganized people will get fed up and just dump this stuff in their garbage for weekly pick up?

Did anyone else experience this? Any suggestions on where to dispose of my paint?

Yes, I managed to wade through the traffic to go to Second Looks, which wasn't easy. There is a site you can take this stuff to, in South Austin, I believe, but the city tried a remote pick-up spot, and it overwhelmed them.
I believe this was a first attempt at this service, and now the need for the event has been made very clear-hopefully, the city will do this more often and in more locations so the wait in not so bad.
It was a good idea, but the volume overwhelmed the system, unfortuneately.

You can do this every Tuesday and Wednesday after noon (as well as the first Saturday of every month) here; I realize it may not be as outwardly convenient if you live in NW Austin, but I've dumped off paint/solvent here 3 different times and there's never any wait/******** at all, you just drive up, 2-3 guys unload your truck, and you're gone...

I did the city of Austin thing in march for the first time and it was great. I was in and out in about 5 minutes. I live near 35th and MoPac and it was about a 40 minute round trip.

thanks for this. I have about 20 old cans of paint the previous home owners left us. Rusting, etc. Gonna drop them off this weekend.

lots of links to answer your qustions

the city of Austin drop-off during the week is open Tue and Wed from 12 PM to 7 PM

there are usually 4 or 5 people there, I never waited more than 5 minutes. They unload for you while you wait in your vehicle

Don't ask for the details, but we have two kitty litter tubs (the 40 lb. variety) with old gas that has gotten some water in there...

My biggest concern is splashing & the mixture getting loose in the back of the truck.

Rox, double or triple bag the containers with large trash bags... they will take them.... or place them inside of a larger container like a 33 gallon trash can
