Cheese Course Recommendations

I'm throwing a 40th anniversary party for my parents on Thursday. I was thinking about starting with a cheese course. Maybe 4-5 cheeses and whatever interesting things to serve with them (honey, dates, bread, whatever).

Anyway, I'm interested in some suggestions. I would like to have a broad spectrum of cheeses since most of the people will not be into the strongest stuff.

one of my favorites is manchego with sliced pear

i also like to melt goat cheese onto french bread slices and top with marinated jalapeno/carrot relish (hell of a relish). sounds odd but everyone i've served it to has loved it

i'm interested to hear some other's reccomendations. i love me some cheese

manchego with pear popped into my head immediately. you stole my thunder.

also, at malaga, they serve a non-sugary raspberry compote with their manchego and it is outstanding.

Try the manchego with quince paste. You can get both at Central Market.
Serve a nice brie with an asian pear.
Plain goat cheese with raspberry chipotle sauce.

*manchego with quince
*a veined cheese such as gorgonzola or roquefort
*an aged yellow cheese, such as mimolette
*a triple cream brie (such as Belle Etoile or St. Andre)
*something fun (such as Tartufo Bianchetto-Italian truffle cheese, or Clisson-a goat's milk cheese washed in Sauternes)

Serve with nuts and a variety of fresh and dried fruit.

Mmmm... cheese...

if you can find sage derby, people will think you are some kind of genius. it is very interesting looking and unique. NOT a weird taste. go to CM and buy a little to sample.
