I betcha theres not another freshman, with that type of percentage in shooting. Yea O.Sims and A.Ellenberg are good!
But I have to give the award to C.Fussell
Hookem'
Chas is the top frosh in scoring in league games. She's tops among all players in FT %. But there
are at least three frosh with better FG % than Chas's 43.2: Vicky McIntyre of OSU (55.3%); O. Sims of BU (51.4%) and H. Christofferson of ISU (51.2%). In 3pt %, Chas is behind Jenni Bryan of OSU (44.4%) and O. Sims of BU (43.3%).
Only Sims comes close to the amount of shots Chas has taken, though. Chas does have a good % from the field, outstanding from BTA and absolutely great from the FT line.
I have read she has been playing ball for a long time.I think this write up is saying her freshmen year in high school is when she seen she wanted and could do more. She wanted to go futher then any other had from her area and she has.Texas is a great place for Chass. She gives 110% every game.
As I think we all are, I'm a huge Chas fan. The Texassports story and these posts have produced a mystery. The article says she was introduced to basketball as a freshman and did not know the game before that, but we all assumed she had played her whole life and it sounds like some have read that. Maybe she had played some on the playground, like the average little girl in a small southern town, but not more than that. I'd like to know more about this Brown guy. He must have been a coach or player. He even knew what programs needed what kind of players and evidently set her up with us. It's a great story, and makes Chassidy even more of a wonder.
I have read and am tring to find the write up on Chass. She has been playing ball for a long time. Her dad use to work with her since she was very small and showed her how to play. She played AAU ball from 3rd grade and up. Her Jr high team won the highest they could her 8th grade year. Then she said she wanted more when she became a freshmen as this new write up has come out.I will keep looking for the write up to post on here.
We definitely have some great recruits coming in next year, not to mention the return of Cokie, but I think Chassidy would be the first to say (and has said) that she's had plenty of help this season.
It's great to see Chas get the award this week after losing out to Sims last week. I was actually surprised when they gave it to Sims on the basis of her great game vs. A&M; she scored 25 but that was the only game the Bears played that week. Usually if a player only has one good game, or the squad only plays one game during the week, they're not considered for the weekly awards. And Chas had averaged 21.5 pts, 5 rbs, 2 assists, 1 block and 1 steal over two games so I thought she was a shoo-in, but they gave it to her this week on the basis of just one game so I guess it all worked out in the end!
As we all know the Big12 has some great freshmen talent this season. So far Sims has won 4 frosh POW honors, Fussell and Hooper 3 each and Ellenberg 2. That said I think Chassidy would win Big12 Freshmen POY hands down if the award were given right now. We'll have to see how the rest of the season unfolds for all concerned but she is currently 3rd in conf scoring (averaging 7 points more than Sims), 2nd in 3 pointers made, 3rd in FT% and 4th in 3 pt FG%. Kudos to our coaching staff for knowing talent when they see it as Chassidy wasn't even a top 100 recruit out of HS. I'm so glad they offered her and even happier that she's a Horn!
