Charcoal Grills

There are a couple of threads discussing smokers, but none really dealing with charcoal grills. Since I'm about to buy one, I thought I would get some peoples' opinions. I know it's ridiculous for a grown man to not own one, and I'm tired of cooking indoors all the ******* time just because my apartment isn't ideal for keeping a grill.

I'm naturally leaning toward a weber kettle grill, but not sure whether I should get the 22.5 inch, or the 18.5 inch model. I initially thought the bigger one would be overkill and I wouldn't need that big of a grilling space, but now I'm not so sure. I might eventually want to buy a brisket and use the waterpan method, in which case I would be grateful for the extra large grill.

I like using my dad's big green egg, but that's way too expensive for me. I really don't know of any other brands or models to consider.

Thanks in advance.

If all you're wanting to do is grill steaks, burgers, chicken, etc, the 18.5 will probably be enough. If you want to do veggies w/ the other stuff or want to do the indirect cooking, go w/ the 22.5 (you never have too much grilling surface). We could do ribs for 2 or a decent sized brisket on the 22.5 before moving up to a smoker.

I say go bigger. You can easily get by using less space or have your Lump charcoal set off to the side whereas with the smaller unit, you might not be able to get anything done if your product is too large.

Also, a larger surface means a larger VERTICAL interior space - that means you might be able to get a full upright bird in there vs. the smaller unit.

It's always easier to use less space on the grill than to want & not have the added space but need it. (i.e. better to have it & not need it than to need it & not have it).
