Changing frequency on garage door opener

Is there a basic, easy way to do this or is it different for all garage door openers. If anyone knows some basic steps on how to do this, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I think there are two types depending on how old your garage door opener is. If you stand up on a step ladder and look at your opener, there should be a cover with a little switch panel inside. The switch panel will have either a series of 10 or 12 binary switches or a or a little metal piece where switches otherwise would be (older models). You match the sequence of swithces in your remote by flipping the switches or by using a screwdriver to punch out the metal piece in the same sequence.

depending on how old and make of your opener you could just simply get on a ladder and press and hold the red or green button for ten seconds then press and release the button then start to click your clicker and it will suck in a new code if you have an older model (over four years old0 you will have to do as SO says and match the pins on the opener and the transmitter
