they have been predicting "The Big One" in Tokyo since I was
there in 1982 and it was 10 years late then.

nothing to see here (and nothing you can do about preventing it either...)

Then California is going to slide into the ocean and Arizona will be beach front property!!!

Are these the same people that predicted doom and gloom with Y2K?

mcbrett, first off, way to cross-reference threads. kudos, or whatever.

Second, I didn't claim to be a brilliant scientist. nor did I make my own forecast. I simply questioned the reasoning behind the practice of speculative science in the media.

Third, I was making a crack at the science that goes away from the lab and into the void of guesswork, given that the top two hurricane scientists recently quit predicting atmospheric future phenomenon based on their theories that they themselves admitted don't work. Put down the tinfoil hat.

The Link

Fourth, I agree, weather is different than climate. And both are different than seismology. In fact, I minored in geology back in Austin, and I think I remember reading about what a seismograph is. Is there a machine that has been proven to accurately PREDICT hurricanes? Or earthquakes?

Fifth, my comment was foremost, a quip, joke, whatever you want to call it. Just like yours with a Godzirra pic.

they have been predicting the big one in la for 20 years now. earthquakes are not predictable unless the prediction is in the 100 year range.

The problem with the science is not the ones they predict and don't happen, it is the ones that happened that they didn't see coming. Pretty much every earthquake that I have been made aware of was almost a complete, where did that come from?
