can you even imagine the backlash if a conservative teacher did something like this to a lib?? barry himself would be in the school mugging for the photo op

Sadly enough i wonder if this was an oppressive teacher or a student/parent ready to feed the Outrage Industry. I endured a few smartass remarks from teachers in the 1960s and 1970s and never thought about making it a national news story. Of couse my teachers were more conservative than I. I grew up in rural Texas and I'm having a hard time trying to conjure up a mental image of a geometry teacher with liberal political leanings.

did you read the story? do you know what the teacher did?
how could you actually try to deflect to the parents on this?

I must have read a short version of the story. It said the teacher "mocked" her, but I didn't get any quotes about what the mockery was. I saw the teacher had written an apology saying that she had not meant to belittle the student. Did the teacher do or say something awful? Growing up and living in Philly maybe neither the teacher nor the student had ever been exposed to anything other than gentle, supportive and uplifting communications.

You get a pass on this then
The teacher told the girl to take off the Romney shirt. that wearing it was like wearing a KKK shirt and did other mocking stuff

here is the original story

I guess I grew up differently from Crockett. Went to school in the 50's and graduated in '68 and if I ever had a conservative teacher, I was not aware of it. Of course as a conservative majoring in history and government at UT from '68-72, I can assure you that I had few classmates, much less profs, who were not very liberal.

As a new teacher - started 1 1/2 months ago - I've already run into my fair share of leftist ideology. Problem is, there's not a lot I can do about it.
Examples.
Principal held a staff meeting to ensure that politics was left completely out of the school. He ended it by saying, "And, no, I can't even wear my Obama shirt to school."
Two days ago, he said the following in a staff meeting, "I used to work at the typical white, racist, Republican school."

Thing is, I really like the guy and like working for him. I can overlook the subtle (or not so subtle) political digs.

My larger problem is in what I've been given to teach. In my district, all teachers must follow the BASAL series. Basically, 90% of what you teach and the materials you use are supplied to you. One of many examples...

On Monday, I read a short story about urban gardens. Story was about how room is scarce in cities so citizens will often find a plot of unused land (abandoned lot) to grow gardens. Story went on about how communities share the gardens and use the area as a meeting place. No problem there.

Later in the story, the author implored the citizens to protect these gardens from development. (Still no problem there.) He suggested that they write their city council in the event that the owner of the property wants to build on his/her land. He then wrote that students should go to the property and have a "sit-in". He stated, "If you camp there, they can't build anything." Finally, at the end of the article, one of the review questions asked the students who owned the property. The answer was those that built the gardens.

I actually refused to give this as the proper answer and, in the process, probably got myself informally blacklisted by the other teachers in the room. I told the kids that the owners of the property were the rightful owners and that it is illegal to "squat" on someone else's land.

Again, this is just one of many examples. I know it doesn't seem like much; however, this kind of information runs rampant throughout all subjects and grades.

/cool story

Obviously, a kid has a degree of free speech rights at school. However, to me the real story is the inconsistency. A teacher will throw a fit over a kid in a Romney t-short, but we'll have teachers lead kids in pro-Obama songs.

This story on a BusDriver telling a 12 y o he should have been aborted because there is a Romney/Ryan sign in his yard is another example of people not respecting the free speech of others.

The school district did fire the bus driver.
What are these people thinking that they verbally attack children who support a different candidate?

Are there examples of school personnel verbally attacking BO supporting school kids?
