CFN's 2008 Texas Preview is up

Is a pretty fair artcile. Although the secondary is a question mark, I think our pass defense woes will be repaired by the presence of an effective LB corps.

Noone outside our little community seems to observe how ineffective the LBs have been the past few years and what a strain it puts on the secondary.

Wouldn't mind at all a team with attitude.

seems fair enough. I think the major issue with this year's team is not going to be defensively but offensively. Colt is the kind of QB who needs a play-maker at the running back spot. Without that, i'm afraid teams are going to come hard after him, forcing mistakes, which he has proven to be prone to. I'm not saying Fozzy and VM don't have talent, but it's all potential until it's realized on the field. Nothing I saw from VM made me think we're all going to forget Jamaal Charles anytime soon. He will be a good back, but I just dont see him being a big playmaker. Chris O might be the best option for this team right now.

good read,

given that I do not keep an ear to (all) the proverbial pre-season media, what comes to mind is a MB blurb form months ago: something with a well remembered verbal italics to "entertain the crowd" and 'trick plays" - refering to the new season.

Seems entirely juxtaposed to the nasty factor. Just typing this post and remembering Westbrook, Brakens, Studdard, (and all the rest, to numerous to mention).

"Entertain the crowd"? Hell, its the nasties that makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.... thats entertainment - and it may well help bring home the BIG XII So. division on a consistant basis.

that is all ...

While the secondary may be young and untested and may have problems early on, I have a strong hunch that bunch will be a salty group by midseason. This defense has potential to be very, very good.

Lots of young good looking recruits, good new DC, but the top ten athletes is the least impressive I've seen at UT in many years!!

How many would have made the list two, three or four years ago?

There is as much big time talent as there's been on campus during Mack's tenure at UT. The difference is, a ton of it is very young and we don't know which players will emerge as super stars if any. THIS season is their proving ground. This is a season like 2003 or 2004 to me. You'll look up in late October and realize that a Desean Hales or Malcolm Williams is a total badass. Is this MNC talent? I don't know, but I believe over the next 2-4 years we'll be pretty badass and probably a BCS type team.
