Central Texas Fun-Trip

me and the gf are thinking about going on a little road trip when i get back to Texas. probably going to san antonio thursday night and having a few drinks somewhere and staying at her brothers house. then friday we plan on going to fiesta texas, staying for the fireworks and then heading up towards canyon lake.
hopefully we will be able to camp somewhere along the lake, and wake up saturday and spend like a half day playing in the lake. then around noon time, maybe making the trip to luckenbach(never been) and watching some live music and just relaxing. and if cheap enough stay the night in luckenbach and head back to houston on sunday, stopping in gruene on the way for breakfast or lunch, whatever time it might be when we are passing through..

can anyone give me any does or don'ts? good spots on the lake where i might be able to camp at? places to stay (if there are any) in luckenbach? dining options in gruene?

I live in the area, so I don't camp much around here. There are a ton of places. If it were me, I'd try Guadalupe State Park in order to avoid some of the weekend tubing crowds, though I doubt you'll be able to get a reservation this late.

Instead of hanging out at Canyon Lake all day, I would consider a tube float. Check with any of the outfitters ahead of time to make sure they are running. It's been an ugly spring due to all the rain. In Gruene, eat at the Gristmill. There's never a reason to eat anywhere else.
 
yeah ive eaten at the Gristmill before. that is actually where i was planning on going, but couldn't think of its name.

i didnt think about all the tubers that will be there on the weekend. maybe if i stick to the west side of the lake, i can avoid all that. i was really planning on making this a relaxing trip, maybe actually doing a little fishing at the lake.

well it wont be this weekend, but probably a weekend at the end of june, beginning of july. and i was going to see if you wanted to meet up that friday night somewhere?
 
Yeah definitely. You and Katie should stop by my place for some homemade grub. Bring Maddie too if you wish. I promise my upstairs of my house will not be 110 degrees like it was at the Alamo Bowl.
 
i dont think that maddie will make it. and i might have to take you up on the homemade grub, even though i was looking forward to eating down on the river walk.

can we stay at your place friday night since you basically live in canyon lake anyway?
 
i will let you know whenever i get back into the States. everything is still up in the air. but i think that we might be leaning towards eating over at your place that friday night.

anybody have any suggestions about places to grab a bite to eat outside of fiesta texas for lunch? also recommendations on places to stay around luckenbach?
