Central A/C cooling question

I live in a house that has an additional room that was added on after the central air was installed. The add-on doesn't get quite the circulation as the other rooms, so its always hotter during the summer and colder in the winter. Anyone know what I could do to improve the circulation or cooling in this room? Any tricks to increase the air flow from the a/c ducts into my room? We need to decide if we want to stay another year and this is one of the big problems with the house.

Lazrger duct to that room would probably work. Or perhaps routing a return vent into the room to improve the circulation via the "pull" from the return.

Yes, larger duct could work, maybe something else.

The air-handler (in the closet or attic) has two main vents - one incoming and one outgoing, of course some large ones may have multiple main vents. The outgoing vent is similar to an artery in a heart in that it will have branch vessels going to separate rooms. Typically you want the rooms that are the farthest away from the handler to be ducted in the mail outgoing air line closer to the air handler (where the outgoing air is 'stronger') and the rooms closest to the handler to be later in the line. So, if your added room is far from the air handler and the "vein" is also farther from the air handler then the airflow you get will be low.

My A/C guy showed me this when I was working on converting a room to an office. We rerouted the vein in the manner above and the air moves quite well.

All of this assumes your system is strong enough to handle the extra room. If you have a 2-ton system for a 800 sq ft house and now with the added room you have 1300 sq ft then your are at least 1-ton under where you should be.

Check the main artery coming out of the air-handler and see where your new vent is added and where it is in comparison to how far the room is from the handler, etc.

Hope this made sense.
