Cell Phone - Motorola V3 for Cingular

I think this is the one they are calling the razor phone or whatever.

I am looking to upgrade my old cingular phone and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with this.

Thanx in advance.

I went with a new pair of V551's today. They looked a little more sturdy than the razors. But it was a hassle with my business account to get the same deal as a individual account could on the internet.

this way all my chargers and other accessories still are compatible.

I've had the Razor since it came out and here is my experience:

I am now on my 4th one in 6 months. However, part of that is my fault.

First one went crazy when a buddy dumped his Vodka Soda on it in Vegas. Certainly not the phone's fault. It worked fine for a couple days, then the browser started launching on it's own.

I somehow had insurance on the phone (they don't offer insurance for the Razor, but I was paying for it somehow so good for me). Anyway, replaced it for the $50 deductible then this phone, out of the blue, would not turn off, and certain keys would not work. I didn't do anything to the phone, it just started acting up.

I used the warranty for that phone and they sent me a third. Well, it wouldn't recognize the SIM card, sooooo they sent me another and now on #4.

Other than the above nightmare, which was partly my fault, I like the phone. It's sleek for certain. I carry my phone in my pocket vs you ******* dorks who carry your phone/pager/blackberry all at once on your belts so the slimness is a huge benefit.

The screen is large and the buttons are large enough so you won't have any issues dialing, etc. It is actually more durable than you think. I have dropped the thing a few times with no issues (for the record, I didn't drop the second one that acted up on its own). Also has bluetooth, which is nice

Camera on it is half-***. Don't buy for the camera, but it will take ok shots when there is plenty of light.

One downside is the volume. It could be better. It's not horrible by any means, but a bit low for me (I've actually gotten used to it)

It definitely has the "wow" factor. Frankly, it looks cool. I personally bought the phone 75% for the size and 25% because it looked ******* cool. If you could care less about how the phone looks there are better functioning phones.

Price can also be an issue, however I think they are down to $200 now, which pisses me right off, but whatever.

all in all I like the phone and have no regrets buying it. It operates fine for me, fits in my pocket and looks sweet.

I really want to get one. But as a exisiting customer the lowest price I see is about 350 dollars. I cannot see justifing that.

I just got one last friday. It was $199 at best buy when I signed a new one year contract with cingular.
So far I like it. I use it a lot for business, so the speakerphone is really nice. People have told me they can hear me better when I'm in speakerphone mode than not. Another thing that I like is that it has ringtones that actually sound like a phone. Who would have ever thought of that. Not all of us want 50 cent or (insert pop song of the week here) going off every time the phone rings at the office. I feel the interface is very user friendly and the slim design makes it fit well in your pocket. Also it is long enough unfolded to feel like you are talking into the phone rather than some of the smaller phones that end on the side of your cheek.
One downside is if you want to use a headset, it has to be bluetooth. There isn't a headset jack, only the usb port that it charges through. Also, in the phone book you can only assign one number per entry. If you have contacts with more than one number you must make multiple entries.
Overall I would recommend it. I have not used many of the advanced features as I haven't had it that long. If you sign a new contract with cingular the price is only $99 at best buy. It is a bargain for that price.

I've had it for about a month now. Like it, haven't had any problems. The phone book setup sucks, but otherwise I like it. Here's a link from Amazon.com $150. Not bad.
The Link

Think there's a $150 rebate, so the phone's somewhat free.

I will never buy another motorola phone. Nothing but problems with software and dropping calls. The Nokia 6230 is the way to go!
