Is there any way to send and receive faxes by cell phone? I would like to cancel the land line, but I need to be able to send and receive faxes.

Lawyer stuff.

I use efax and I am able to recieve faxes on my iphone. I have never tried to send a fax though. They do have the ability to send through their website so it can probably be done.

I use myfax and I get faxes to email and can send faxes by sending an email to "fax#"@myfax.com. Has worked reliably for a few years now.

Agree on the scan-and-email approach.

Fax is a dying technology. It’s nothing more than a means of document transport and we have better ways to do that now. A fax machine is just a ****** printer.

I agree, but lawyers are slow to change sometimes and we still have old paper docs and people still ask for me to fax them docs and I don't want to continue to pay for the land line. I am going to check out myfax when I get back from the minor emergency clinic. The enormous recycling bin just wrestled me to the mat and I think I may have broken my wrist. Ice hasn't helped.

Fractured wrist and thumb. Getting older is getting old and because of my liver I really can't take much in the way of pain meds. ctj

Ouch Nick! Sorry to hear about that.

Another thing I want to check out is hellofax.com. This might be another option for you.

I used to work a lot with law firms and corporate counsel on document management (litigation discovery), and I found them to be one of the most conservative (read: resistant) with respect to newer technologies. Of course much of that has to do with confidentiality concerns which is perfectly reasonable, but a lot of it I think had to do with the older generation of lawyers who just didn’t understand the tech and dismissed its value. Some of the younger associates were all over it, but they didn’t sign the checks so that was a barrier to adoption.

As the more tech-savvy folks take over this is shifting a bit, but there’s still a ways to go. But faxing needs to die.
