he will play once a team decides to hire him. He's basically waiting on a phone call. Nobody really needs him at this point unless someone gets injured which probably 100% will happen eventually.
Hopefully he will realize his behavior has put him in this situation.
The Texans should pick himm up. They should give him the "if you don't make it here, you won't make it anywhere" talk.
Seriously, why wouldn't the Texans jump on this given Chris Brown's history and the current saga with Ahman Groin? He has to be cheap, right?
Erin was discussing this on 1530 this morning and apparently the GM for the Texans flat out said that they weren't interested in Cedric. The speculation on the radio was that it was more his lack of production for the Bears than concerns about his pending legal issues that is keeping him from getting signed. It's also worth noting that Ced's not the only RB without a team--Shaun Alexander comes to mind offhand.
I thought it was determined a week ago when this exact same topic was posted that he would be picked up once the season started, after someone is hurt and so they don't have to pay him a full years contract.
Before all his troubles this year I had heard that he had lost some weight and was in good shape to have a good season. Then all his crap happened. Such a shame.
I think they're all waiting as long as they possibly can (letting his value fall). Or, they're too busy getting other guys signed, camp issues, etc. Somebody will call him sooner or later. He's got to be better than Ahman Green (at his age). Unless he's such a head case (in the locker room) that nobody wants to risk it.
Once somebody gets hurt in camp/pre-season or a team's RB's don't produce like they thought they would, they'll come a callin.
I think Ced would get signed before Alexander just based on the fact that Ced is still in his prime years and Alexander is past his prime and has little tread left on the tires.
I'd say that the prime candidates at this point in time would be:
- Cincy: Running game sucked balls last season and nobody knows if Rudy Johnson is going to come back to form or not.
- Arizona: No substantial proven talent behind an aging Edgerrin James.
- St. Louis: Steven Jackson is holding out and they don't have any substantial proven talent behind him either. Him being hurt along with other key injuries on that team absolutely crippled them last year.
- New Orleans: Bush sucks, Duece's knee is as solid as a rubber band. Nuff said.
There are plenty of spots out there. It is simply a matter of Ced getting his messes cleared up, in playing shape, and his mind right.

A shame?? There isn't one bit of this he didn't bring on himself.. He's learning now he doesn't have that crew to pull his butt out of the fire any more.
New Orleans isn't likely to touch Cedric unless they are decimated by injury. He doesn't fit their offensive scheme at all, plus they're very high on Pierre Thomas.
Given his YPC, work ethic or lack of one, attitude and off field issues I don't know a team that he fits their style of offense. Maybe offenses but not Offense.
