CBS Sports' Gregg Doyel Goes off on Saban, Miles .

We've had a few guys transfer for "more playing time" elsewhere. I would speculate that Texas has also signed highly rated prospects when there wasn't room available but opens up shortly thereafter.

I do not know if Doyel's facts are correct. However, I fully agree with banning oversigning. It is outrageous that a kid can lose a scholarship based solely on the deceit or miscalculation of a sports program.

The NCAA clearly states that scholarships are issued on an annual basis. 4 or 5 years are not guaranteed to anyone.

If at the end of a season or after Spring ball, a coach decides to not continue the schollie, tell the kid so he has time to check out his options. Letting a kid enroll then pulling the schollie is inexcusable.

I am surprised that these kids don't sue the schools for breach of contract. By signing with the school, they are agreeing to provide services in return for compensation. Some of you probably know more about this than me, but are these kids considered at at will? If so, the NCAA is getting away with being pimps just using these kids at their whim and then throwing them away when done with them.

Think what you will of the article, and yep, a lot of us have griped about scholarship limits, when UT could be loading up on good to great players.

That being said, there are scholarship limits. Schools are supposed to take no more than 25 a year, and have a total of 85 on scholarship. That rule is supposedly for ALL big time college football teams. That a coach can bend the rule to meet his needs, then conform by cheating a player who showed faith in the school and coach by arbitrarily running the player off doesn't make the practice right.

It's not reasonable to expect the NCAA to do anything about it, even if the scholarship limit rule is the NCAA's. Except for the rare occasion (Read: USC paying Bush and others.), the NCAA has all the spine of Jello. That's a shame, because the shady practice of running off players never seems to come back and bite the likes of Saban. They just go on ruining the lives of players they don't think measure up to the needs of their teams.

The 25-85 scholarship limit rule needs to either be vigorously enforced, or gotten rid of. Right now, it means little to several successful, but shady coaches around the country, especially in the southeast corner of the country.

"By signing with the school, they are agreeing to provide services in return for compensation."

Nope. They're agreeing to follow the school's and NCAA's rules and limitations in exchange for one year of football playing. There's no guarantee that they'll be around for the year after that, or the year after that, etc.

Mack is classy enough to let guys know their PT situations and generally makes decisions around grades/attitude to "urge" guys to choose wisely. I'm guessing one of the more recent guys that left was because of this "urging" (not Harris).

It would be a cold day in hell before Mack would strip a scholly from an established player to make room for a freshman.

Matt Nader, a Westlake player whose heart stopped during a game during his senior year, survived, but was told he could never play football again. He had already given UT a verbal committment, but obviously had not signed a LOI. Mack honored the scholarship anyway, which I doubt any of the above-mentioned coaches would have even considered.

LOL @ his bio. I was thinking dew-bag all the way until I saw he disliked the Beastie Boys, then it was on. F him. I seriously think if I saw him in a hospital room with burns all over his body he'd be getting tickled.

I like what he did there though on this blog or whatever.

It's a gray area, and it is unethical especially if pushed to the extent some of those guys are doing. But it isn't something I would call for the death penalty over. I would think recruits would get the message pretty quickly and tend to avoid coaches who use such tactics, but maybe they all believe they are the one who won't be pushed out.

AustinBat - Nader went on Medical Scholarship. One of the beefs with Saban is the number of kids he puts on medical scholly. Letting them stay in school and finish a free education, but at the same time, people question the veracity of the injuries.

Let's not forget Tony Hills, then the top TE in the country or at least in the top tier. He got injured and it was maybe drop foot. Mack assured him that the scholly was his. It was for Tony Hills. Not Tony Hills the TE but the person. Even if he never played a lick of football ever again he had the chance and promise by Mack to be a Horn.

There's a difference between taking 28 guys and having three of them count against the previous year's class, and taking 37 and forcing out upperclassmen benchwarmers. Your recruiting coordinator has to be aware of the potential transfers before you go and get a million guys to come to your school. The coordinators at these schools are ********.

I posted about this on another board.............I can just imagine Les saying........."Hey Billy Bob, what the hell are you doing here? There's no way you passed chemistry." Whispers to assistant, "get Billy Bob a tutor and get me a list of underachievers, stat."

Reports indicate that Elliott Porter, one of the dumped LSU signees, has signed on with Kentucky.

Glad he found a scholarship after being screwed by Miles and LSU and I hope UK beats LSU like a drum for 4 yrs.
