CBS Selection Show

They put West Virginia and Maryland in the same regional. That could be fun to watch.

Also Kansas is the 2 seed in Kentucky's region. Kansas is in the same regional as Wichita State. That is not good for Kansas.

Indiana, a bubble team people were saying was out, got in as a 10 seed.

Texas is an 11 seed versus 6 seed Butler Thursday in Pittsburgh. Winner plays winner of Notre Dame-Northeastern.

Three Big 12 teams in the same region is BS.

Should have been two big 12 teams in 3 regions and 1 in the fourth.

Worst part is they put the three Big 12 teams in Kentucky's region.

Quick look at Butler: They lost to OU in November on a neutral Court by 13. They also lost to Tennessee and Indiana. Going to be a tough game BUT I actually think it is winnable.

Quick look at Notre Dame: Notre Dame just won the ACC Tournament beating North Carolina by 8 and Duke by 10 in their last two games. Notre Dame is going to be a really tough 3 seed.

I think we got a favorable first round matchup (as favorable as possible with a low seed) and a very unfavorable second round matchup IF (BIG IF) we get past Butler.

OU is a 3 seed in the east region where Villanova is a 1 seed and Virginia is a 2 seed.

OU plays Albany and gets the winner of providence and the Boise-Dayton play in game.

Given the season so far it is a decent pairing and about as good as could be expected. Now will the team play or tank? Bet on tank and hope for a run.

Iowa State is a 3 seed playing UAB. In that region Duke is a 1 seed and Gonzaga is a 2 seed. Iowa State plays the winner of SMU-UCLA.

Oklahoma State a 9 seed playing Oregon.

Winner plays 1 seed Wisconsin.

Texas Southern plays 2 seed Arizona in this bracket. Go Tigers!

Baylor is a 3 seed in this bracket playing Georgia State. Baylor plays the winner of Xavier and BYU/Ole Miss play in.

The chair of the selection committee was Scott BARNES.... looks like we did not need to worry about getting in at all.

Butler not as daunting as the past. 1-5 vs. now Top-25. Beat #19 North Carolina by 8. Lost to #15 OU by 13, #4 Villanova twice (12, 3), and Georgetown twice (2, 6).

Of course we are no prize going 1-10 vs. now Top-25, one win was OT vs. Baylor.

In close games (5 or less) they are 6-3. We blow at 3-6 in gut check time.

In the past we've pretty much gotten screwed by the committee, but this was about as favorable as it could get for our 2015 results. A tough SOS and close results against really good teams is typically not enough, but it was a really weak bubble year.

We'll get our butt kicked by Butler.

The reason? Coaching. We have the talent but lack the discipline. It is time to say goodbye to Rick Barnes.

Just a quick stat breakdown...pretty similar teams...

OFFENSE:

Points: Butler 69.6 Texas 67.9
FG %: Butler 43.9 Texas 43.6
3-pt %: Butler 35.8 Texas 33.9
FT %: Texas 72.4 Butler 68.0
Rebounds/G: Texas 39.7 Butler 36.8

They have us slightly beat in scoring and 3-pt %, not by enough to spot a clear advantage in a single game. FG % is nearly a draw. We do hold a solid free throw % and decent rebounding edge. Both should translate to the game considering our level of competition. Winning the boards and hitting a higher rate of foul shots (against a similarly limited offense) could tell the story.

DEFENSE:

Points: Texas 60.4 Butler 61.2
FG %: Texas 36.8 Butler 41.6
3-Pt %: Butler 30.6 Texas 34.8
FT %: Texas 66.1 Butler 67.9
Rebound/G: Texas 26.7 Butler 27.4

We hold the slim edge in overall defense, aside from 3 pt %. Yet when considering the elevated offensive skills of our foes, one can assume the defensive edge would only grow when facing a mild offense like Butler.

Now I can spot the overall pendulum swing in our favor. Winning the boards and knocking down a better % of free throws should provide an edge in a such a close match-up of scoring offenses and defenses. Both sides hang within 2 points of the other in scoring and defending it. But this part may tell a different story....the offensive FG % is nearly identical, yet we hold almost a 5% edge in defensive FG %. Toss in the extra boards and foul shots, and I smell a small victory if we remain aggressive all the way.

Overall, this is a pretty even match-up with a slight lean to Texas for reasons above and also better competition.

X-factor here is coaching.

It's time to say goodbye to Rick Barnes.

Yeah, when was the last time that Rick Barnes fellow even won an NCAA tournament game?

The Butler coach on the other hand has four total years of head coaching experience. He had 3 at Gardner-Webb and this is his first season at Butler. His total postseason record is 0-1 in the College Invitational Tournament. This is his first ever NCAA tournament as a head coach. Coaching will certainly be an x-factor alright.

I expect Butler to open the playbook. A new coach brings innovation. Meanwhile, Texas will be subjected to the same stale coaching they have had for well over a decade.

It is time to say goodbye to Rick Barnes.

Sphinx, what are you trying to say?

Some are gonna mistake this Butler squad (name recognition alone) for the ones led by March playoff master Brad Stevens. He bolted for the Celtics after 2013 season, and they're no longer the same program now. With the new coach, the 2014 squad finished 14-17 and didn't make any postseason tourney. There will be no March Madness mystique or coaching edge like Stevens would've clearly provided. I'd have bet the house on Stevens over Barnes, but not this new coach. We are the better team and should get past this one. The self-destruct will take place next round vs. the Irish.

Htown and Brad are providing very helpful information about the Butler program and their new coach. I did not know their ace coach from a couple of years back was gone.

I know Butler has not played the tough schedule that the horns have, the B12, so I expect Texas to come out on top. Jim Silas on ESPN also picked Texas. We should win this game.

Go HORNS!!

I legitimately think we have the talent to hang with anyone. Tis the poor execution that makes me tingle with fury.

Its like me being upset with my son if he underachieves when I know he's capable of so much more.

Usally when the Horns have a chance to play a Marquee game, say against a number one seed in the tourney, they usually blow it. So, I see them getting to the sweet 16 with a chance to advance to a rematch with Kentucky and.....I hope they get their chance to play KU once again!!!!
