Caymans or St. Thomas?

class of 03

Honeymoon in April, I know its getting close, and I'm down to these 2. Caymans is more expensive and more developed, but there is more to do. St. Thomas is nice, day trip to St. John, quiet beach etc and much cheaper.

Any guidance at all? I have to book next week for my sanity.

St. Thomas is VERY touristy and like South Beach when compared to St. John, where the missus and I spent half our honeymoon (other half in Virgin Gorda). St. John pwns St. Thomas. In other words, I'd spend ALL my time there. My wife's been to the Caymans and I think she liked it quite a bit.

I've not been to the USVI but I've been to the Caymans twice. I love it there. The people are friendly and there's quite a bit to do.

If you can get off of St. Thomas and onto another Virgin Island than take the VI's over Cayman for a honeymoon, there are more things to do. If it is between St. Thomas and Grand Cayman, both are circus's, full of Cruise Ships day passengers and 7 mile beach on Cayman is just as bad as South Beach. St. Thomas sucks too for the most part with the exception of the Ritz, but for the money, jump to another island. St. Johns is nice, and you can take a ferry to one of the British VI's from Charlottel Amalie or the West End.
Look into some of the condos on St. Johns they are nice alternatives to hotels. Virgin Gorda and Tortola are all ferry rides from STT.

My aunt and uncle, (lurkers here even though they're Sooner trash

) used to live in the Caymans on Seven Mile Beach, and now live in Tortola, BVI.

I've visited them both places. While Cayman is much easier to get to, it's still not back to normal after the hurricanes a couple of years back. Tortola is much more rustic than Cayman, but much neater.

Cayman is flat as Galveston. Tortola is a big mountain.
Cayman is all there is, unless you want to fly over to Little or Brac. (You don't.)
Tortola has numerous other islands just a short ferry ride away, (Gorda, Peter, St Johns, Anagada, Jost van Dyke); each with it's own personality.

For me, it's the Virgin Islands. It's just more "away" if you know what I mean.
