Cat's peeing on my stuff

What can I do top make her stop besides shooting her? And I can't just put her outside b/c she's been an inside cat for the 8 years I've had her.

This all started back around spring break when she had to be put under to have her teeth cleaned. Ever since, any time I leave out clothes she pees on them-- this includes laundry basket, etc.

So we've stopped leaving clothes around, keep closet doors latched, etc, so that she can't find things to pee on. Now she's moved on to peeing on the dog's bed, (which I made,) and today I discovered that she peed on a cheerleading uniform that I bought home to send to my Varsity rep.

Anyhow, I read an article in the AAS a while back that said that the way to fix it is to lock the cat up in a small configned space like a bathroom for three weeks, and during those three weeks put a peice of your clothing under her food bowl so she'll come to associate your smell with something positive. this will be a pain in the ***, but I'll try anything at this point.

Anybody else had exirience with a pissy kitty?

been doing the closet thing for a few weeks. She recently took to climbing up the clothes on the hangers, pulling them down, and pissing on them. I am at a loss for what to do with her. Cats suck. If it wasnt for my daughter, kitty would be gone.

A cat that already uses the litter and stops usually does so for one of the following reasons:

* It is sick. See above post about UTI. Going outside the litterbox is a telltell sign of sickness. I've seen a cat stop going to the litter because of kidney stones and UTI. UTI usually comes with a little blood, but not always.

* It is stressed. Perhaps you have a change of schedule and aren't home as often. Perhaps the house is louder than normal. Many types of new stresses can cause irregular use of the litter box.

* The litter box isn't clean. Some cats are just picky.

* The litter box is blocked or moved. The box doesn't have to be physically blocked. Your dog or maybe even another cat could be harassing the cat everytime he goes to the litter box and the cat could react to it by just pissing somewhere else, including on the dog's bed.

Either way, when a cat who normally uses the litter box stops using the litter box, I can say with near complete certainty some easily fixable change is causing it. It's your job to find out the cause. There isn't a fix-all solution. The easiest way to stop this behavior is to find out the cause and take the appropriate action.

Unlike dogs, cats don't need to be trained. Bad habits are not natural and training is rarely the needed solution to stop a bad habit, whereas with dogs, bad habits are natural and dogs need training to correct those habits.

If your cats come anywhere near my yard again........

Our older cat started doing this when we got a kitten. She just doesn't like to share the litter box. We even tried two litter boxes, but then the kitten just began using both (and it stunk even worse) so we gave that up. We aren't getting rid of the kitten (though now that he's nearly a year old he's spending a lot more time outside) so our older cat continues peeing elsewhere. I don't want to give her up as she is my wife's from childhood and she's damn near 15, so I guess it's just continue cleaning and save up the $$$ to replace the hall carpet as soon as she passes on.

I am generally a dog person, but aside from this peeing issue I must say I've warmed to these cats - and if nothing else they are a LOT less needy than dogs.

I've discounted the idea of UTI b/c she ONLY pees on my things-- if she has a UTI I think it would be more random, maybe not though. I can't pinpoint anything that has changes in our house/ routine that would be stressing her out either.

She first started peeing on things when, around spring break , she got her teeth pulled. b/c her teeth were pulled we gave her soft food for a couple weeks. I thought that maybe she was peeing b/c she wanted more wet food, but we tried that and she peed on stuff anyway.

Maybe I need to try to get a 2nd litte box. We're actually really good about keeping the litter box clean, so I don't think that's it either.

I'm worried now that the peeing has become a habit as opposed to a "heads up" from kitty, and that it's going to be very difficult to break the habit without locking her up for a while.

For everyone else that has a pissy kitty-- Oxyclean added to the laundry kills the smell.

My ex once had a cat that was very old and jealous of her. It once sought out my backpack to pee on. This cat had to have soft food, could not walk straight all the time and had the most annoying meow. I discovered that it peed on my backpack, which was not on the floor or easy to get to, as I rode my bike to work late. I was a bartender. I was so pissed.

That next morning, I took some cash out of my tips, dropped kitty in the clothes bag and went to vet. Gave them the money and the bag and said, "Euthanize, please". Walked out.

Bye cat. Showed up at her work, told her what happened and went home to nap, after buying a new backpack.

So...is the cat maybe just pissed at you? I know once when i was mad at you I peed in your purse.

We've had problems with that in the past due to bladder crystals. Cheap cat food often contains high magnesium which as I understand is associated with the crystals. If a vet diagnoses this you can get special food to help.

Another, possibly more satisfying option given the stench of cat pee in your house, may be the Scat Mat. 9-volt batteries provide a mild charge through coils that run the length of the mat (which come in various sizes). We always put one on our sofa when we leave. Our last sofa eventually had to be trashed due to terminal nastiness. Never again!

People who have cats that are peeing all over the place because of new cats they don't like: My friend swears by this pheromone stuff she bought off of the internet, she said it was a little pricey but totally solved the problem (that had been ongoing for months, where she had tried many other solutions).

Too Pissy Kitty to the vet this morning. the vet said that there'sd a 90% chance that it's a behavior problem, but they're keeping her for the day to get a urine sample just to be sure.

The vet reccomended this:The Link

same thing mentioned above I think. The vet told me that she heard of it through a friend who provides "foster care" to cats, so she has lots of strange cats in and out of her house, so lots of pissy kitty issues. Appearently she plugged this thing in and hasn't had any pissy kitty problems since. Expensive though-- 35 bucks at petsmart, 25 bucks off the internet, and it only covers about 650 sq ft. I guess we'll see, and I'll report back for the rest of your with pissy kitties.

Does the cat still pee in the litter box, or does it only go on other things? Do you notice the cat making trips to the box but only going there for a short time and then leaving without peeing? LIke someone mentioned earlier, it might be crystals; if that's the case and your vet doesn't have a remedy (there isn't a clear-cut way to take care of this apparently), ask him for some Methioform tablets; you grind them up into their food. Our oldest cat had this problem about two years ago, and this has worked like a charm ever since...
