catfish story

remember all good stories start out--so there I was

I was fishing in a rice canal close to our farm Saturday morning after deer hunting-- my dad had told me fishing was good after a rain where the run off went into the canal and fish would feed on what came by

So i got some worm and grabbed my dad's rod in the cabin.
The first cast fell perfectly just the other side of an eddy where the water was coming in and 2 seconds later the cork sunk. I set teh hook and could feel it was big. I fought and it took line--unfortunalely the drag wouldn't let line out and the line snapped, cork sinker and hook. I messed with the reel and got the drag working--must have been crudded up from trout fishing. So I fished a while longer and had a couple of bites but nothing more.

So I tell my dad I'm putting the worms in the fridge in the cabin and he can try his luck when he gets back from Denver. So he calls me this evening and tells me he figured out where the cork is--- connected to a 10 lb blue cat-- he saw it swimming around with the cork and line still connected to it--he tried to entice it ,but the cat would have none of it----- finally some validatin to one of my fish tales....

Good one..

I have one of my own...I use to go fishing when I was little at Randell Lake near Denison (up near Lake Texoma) and I caught about a 8-10 pound blue catfish. Biggest fish I ever caught up to that point! So I went back to fishing and about 20 minutes the catfish starts going crazy flopping around..and I go over to it and see whats up..Well it turns out that a huge Water Moccasin has latched on to my fish..totally ruined my whole day of fishing.

Hate Water Moccasins!

i once went fishing and tried to bait these sort of over sized minnows. they said to hook them through their nose. as i tried to jab the hook through, the bait started going crazy and i felt sorry for it.

We were frog giggin' and my dad gigged a 2lb catfish that was close to the surface. A water moccasin was on the tail... didn't make much sense but I saw the result. My dad threw the gig and the snake let go and started coming towards my dad rather than directly towards the water. Another guy with us then shot the snake.

When I was younger, we had a stock tank filled w/ perch and brim..I would go out in the evenings and catch a enough for dinner at least twice a week..1 evening, I'm filling up my fish basket and as I pull it out of the water to put my fish in, there's a moccasin curled up w/ already caught fish. I was inches away from sticking my hand in the basket, every since then I've hated snakes.

All Water Moccasins Must Die!!

My family and I would always go to Lake Buchanan every summer. I would NEVER bait my own hook. Being the girl I was, I would always have my Dad or sis bait it for me. So then one year I decided I was gonna give this a shot. So I got over the disgust of the brown squiggly, told him it's time to catch me something, and sure enough... I ended up catching 13 cats that year(of course not on the same worm)!! No one else caught a thing, and needless to say, they were pissed!!

"the bait started going crazy and i felt sorry for it. Then I fell down and bruised my vagina. and after that blood started coming out of it and it was then that i realized i had a miscarriage."

My mother lives on Lake Bob Sandlin in East Texas. She and her husband buy 2.00 bags of bread at the bread thrift store and feed the catfish every night.

No need to fish. You just throw the bread in and net the catfish. LHF68 caught 2 ten pounders at one.

But I somehow think it's cheating

You do NOT want a moccasin bite. Several years ago, my nephew was at summer camp on Lake Buchanan when he was about 12 or 13, and he was trying to catch a toad which was headed toward the brush along the water. It was starting to get dark, and the toad hopped into the brush, my nephew reached for it and never saw what hit him. However, he got nailed on the hand by a moccasin which others later identified. He got lifeflighted to Austin, and was in serious condition for awhile.

I think he had to go to the OR at least 3 times; first to open up the wound, and later to make incisions in his arms (because they were so swollen) to combat the "compartment syndrome". Luckily, he recovered and went back to camp the next year. Now he is in college. Sorry to talk about snake bites on a catfish thread.

I live on the lake, and one time I was mowing the grass and spooked a moc in the tall grass. He started towards me so I pushed the mower over him. Half his body came flying towards me and slapped my leg. So I don't mow the grass anymore. Oh, and I don't fish.

I can relate to these moccasin experiences.
One close call with a large copperhead is all I ever want to see of those buggars... don't know if they are that more venomous, but they will always scare the liver out of me.
