Anyone taken a trip to Catalina Island? Good? Bad? Horror stories? Suggestions? I have just always heard of it and have done the Carribbean and Hawaiian too many times.

It's a neat little place. however, the beach is not really a beach at all. there are not enough restaurants/activities to fill more than about 3 days of a trip.
just ask if you have any specific questions.

I've only been there one time, and it was just for an afternoon of scuba diving.

It's a nice island, but I don't put it in the same league of some tropical island destinations like Hawaii, Caribbean, etc. It's a small island, so you'll see and do everything in 2 days. Nice place to scuba/snorkel, or maybe go out on a boat. There are a handful of restaurants/bars on the island to give you a little variety (not a lot) to choose from.

FYI - most hotels on the island require a minimum 2 night stay, so keep that in mind.

My 2 cents is to not make catalina your main destination, but rather a portion of a trip to Los Angeles or So Cal if you end up going.

i agree with most of what has been said here. It is a nice little island that would make a nice weekend getaway from LA. But it is definitely not a destination that you plan your whole vacation about.

I enjoyed it. It is worlds apartment from LA. There are very few cars on the island. Most travel by golf cart. The beaches are barely accessible, mostly smooth rock beaches, but hey, it's not LA.
