Castro Steps Down

It means the next step he takes down will be with a box.

I've always thought JFK left some private personal memo to all succeeding presidents with a no-relations directive while Castro is among the living. I can imagine JFK giving an ultimatum to Castro, and what we've got now is the result of Castro thumbing his nose at the ultimatum.

After Castro is gone, does it mean some sort of US rapprochement by the US? I would imagine so, but it's just a guess.

A (girl) friend of mine from Miami is the daughter of a Cuban born mom. So that family pays close attention to all things Cuban.

Well about 2-3 weeks ago she told me that there was an order in Cuba that there would be NO OVERSEAS TRAVEL UNTIL 2010. She mentioned that it was in anticipation of Fidel dying and they didn't want a mass exodus.

Maybe Fidel's already dead. I don't know.

However, I don't think that the presidents since JFK have given a **** what JFK directed. However I do think that our stance on Cuba was anti-USSR. And then since the fall of the USSR, it has remained the same because Florida is a swing state.

If Florida was a BLUE state all the way, relations with Castro would have changed during Clinton's presidency. But, as my friend in Miami mentioned, all Cuban exiles are Republican because of JFK fiasco in the Bay of Pigs. (And I know that that operation was a carry over from Eisenhower's administration.)

I guess I don't just get our foreign policy...we don't trade with cuba yet we trade with china(communist), multiple African nations (dictatorships), Saudi Arabia (religious oligarchy), other warped middle eastern countries, we even traded with the former soviet union during the cold war, yet we can't get past the little man with the cigar.

A highly literate cesspoll with universal healthcare, but a cesspool all the same. They are responsible for Cuba being the way it is today, not Fidel.

that almost sounds like an endorsement of castro's regime.
