Casey Thompson to Start vs. Rice

Good move. Since we run the risk of getting our quarterback de cleated on every pass play, he may as well be a moving target.

We just don't have the OL to stick with Card as the starter, I am glad that this coach is not so arrogant that he refuses to admit the error and change when needed.

The only good news out of this weekend.

If he plays like he did in the Orange-White game, where he led the white to 12 whopping points against our defense, you may not be any more happy. If he plays like the Alamo Bowl, it could be a very good thing.

I don't think a performance against Rice is going to tell us much about the rest of the season anyway, unless he totally lays an egg. Then we'll know we won't even beat Kansas.

This is a good decision. Hudson has tons of upside, but he was overwhelmed in Fayettenam. We need veterans in there.
Not to be argumentive, but two quarters in a bowl game is the only difference between the two. Both have been in the current system for the same amount of time.

Hudson has more time under center in a live college game than does CT. (~6 quarters vs ~4 quarters). The only way to view CT as more "veteran" than Hudson is if you're counting time in a collegiate program (weight room, training table, college practice sessions, etc.). That isn't an entirely invalid way to look at it, but the argument also isn't particularly robust.

The Offense needs a spark like it did during the game. I voted pre-season for CT to start. I like the decision to start him vs. Owls.

I know the next game is Rice (do the Rice cheer), but CT may be just the tonic, inspiration and leadership ingredient this Offense / beleaguered OL needs to take 2 steps forward.

Last time I checked, Thompson is a junior and Card is a Freshman. But fair enough, I will wait for your robust argument in favor of starting Card.

As I asked in another thread, what has Thomson done in a game (not practice) that hasn’t been either very good, or stellar?

Until his performance on the field provides justification, I don’t think any of us have a reason to doubt him.

Start him. He deserves the shot to say you never know till you try. If it’s an absolute failure we’ll know and in comes Card.

I like Rice being a warmup for Casey just like Louisiana was for Card. Then we see how Casey does against Tech to make a better comparison against Card’s performance at arky.

I don't have one, and I am most definitely not wanting to engage in anything even remotely resembling Applewhite/Simms part 2. I was just questioning how we should define "veteran".

If Thompson played in the Arky game, chances are we would be calling for Card.
Considering how the rest of the team played.
All this being said, we will be excused a Mulligan if we win the rest of the games because we played the "wrong" QB vs Ark and we will be considered a different team
