Case in/Brewer out?

With Case, a sophomore, earning the QB1 position and Ash, a freshman, getting a handful of reps, does Brewer reconsider his verbal? Of course you want him to come in and compete, but the thought of redshirting and then sitting one, maybe two years has got to make him rethink his decision. When he committed, GG was the starter and things have obviously changed since then.

If he redshirts, he's got 3 years of separation from McCoy and 2 years from Ash. That seems close to ideal.

At this point I think Texas should go into West Texas and just look for guys who are gritty and hard workers. We seem to have success with these types.

Pulque, Class of 2000, actually. Let's not equate low posts to not being an alumni or fan. Why is it that when someone is simply trying to get the opinion of other fans he's immediately labeled a troll? It's a legit question that was discussed at our Exes game watch party yesterday and I wanted to see what others thought. That's it. Isn't that what this blog is for???

Who's to say that Brewer might come in and outplay both McCoy and Ash. I, for one, am happy that he wants to be a Horn. It also sounds like he's out there trying to convince other guys to come to Texas.

As long as Brewer is the only QB taken in the next recruiting class, there is no obvious reason for Connor to reconsider his commitment to Texas. Harsin was reportedly interested in and recruiting Brewer to Boise State, and the fact that they can work together at a school with a much higher (surrounding) talent level like Texas should make it that much better.

As mentioned, if Brewer comes in and redshirts, he will have 2 full years of separation between him and David Ash, the youngest QB we currently have on the roster. So that should be about as ideal as it gets at a Top 20 football program.

And I haven't heard anything to the contrary stating that we'd only be playing one starting QB after this season. This isn't Greg Davis's baby any longer. Maybe in three years, Sr. Ash is starting and doing the option plays while RS-Soph Brewer is coming in every other series to mix in some downfield play.

Thanks to those that actually posted some perspective on this. I'm hopeful his relationship with Harsin and his desire to compete is enough to bring him to Austin. Other than what I saw on ESPN's Elite 11 show, I know very little about him. Plus, living in Ohio protects us from the rumors that may or may not be flying around regarding this topic.

Hook 'em.

His sister is here on the swim team. I think he is all in for UT, and he seems like a team guy, trying to help recruit other kids.

I think he will eventually be a leader on our team, I don't have a guess as to how long that will take.

With a redshirt year to use he has plenty of seperation from the McCoy and Ash to have 2 years at least as a starter and given that Harsinwhite have shown they will play the best players he can compete even while they are still on campus. I dont see him wavering unless he doesnt want the competition and then you would have to question whether Texas really would want him and I just dont think that is the case.

Brewer was asked this question late this past week and said he is FIRMLY committed to Texas and knows there is competition anywhere he goes.
If he redshirts next year he would be a R/S freshman in Case's senior season.

If the kid has skills he will play regardless of his age and classification and who is the quarterback in front of him, I think we are learning that this year.

I tend to look at Texas recruits as once they are committed, they are committed, especially the early commits.

I am sure there are examples but for the most part they stay committed.

Today's events make this a moot post, we might even need another QB besides Brewer if another QB gets hurt this season.

If I were a gifted HS senior lucky enough to be recruited by Texas, I'd be even more inclinded to attend UT once I saw the coaching staff's willingness to play the best players (including true freshmen). I'd be looking for a school that gives underclassmen the chance to win starting jobs through hard work and skill. We are starting, what, 18 freshmen this year? Ash is playing critical snaps despite his being a true freshman. This situation is ideal for talented, competitive young athletes.

Uhhh, weren't McCoy, Ash, Gilbert plus Wood here when Brewer committed? Nothing's really changed except the order that they're now playing in - and there's only 3 of them. Question seems easy to dismiss.

That is correct and I have to wonder if Gilbert is not really gone already if you know what I mean. So now there are just two and a very lonely two. I may have to walk on if this keeps up.

I like the idea of being able to redshirt a quarterback. Kids were willing to ride the pine three or four years before taking command at Tech. I'd think being able to run the scout team a year, learn the offense, build your body and get ready for the college game might be a good thing. As a redshirt frosh, Brewer is unlikely to start, but the cool thing about our leaders now is that if he's good enough he will. If he's worthy of some snaps in a specialized formation, he'll be able to contribute while waiting for his time to be "the man."

I feel when Garretts' parents pushed for the surgery (and the saved yr of eligibility) that a transfer was the object

^^ If GG stays, we will not sign another QB. However, if he leaves, we will sign another QB. I am sure MB will be made aware of GG's intentions and will act accordingly. It would be stupid for UT to rely on 2 QBs and a single true freshman as their backup.

no, I think it shows the best man will play. let's him know that he better to to Austin and learn this system fast and work his tail off. win-win
