Cartoons my kids watch I really hate

My kid loves everything on Noggin, and I hate them all, most specifically: Max and Ruby and Wonder Pets. But I do like that it's commercial free, so I keep it on for him. I've never understood his fascination with Max and Ruby and Oswald, but he does appear to be picking up a lot of vocabulary. Not to mention, he loves piano music and watching people play, so I'm going to see how that interest holds through the years.

BTW, if you want to make them more interesting, pay attention to the out of context innuendo, it gets pretty funny at times.

Not really a cartoon, but I would nearly lose it when Oobi came on Noggin. I mean WTF is that? It's disturbing. Thank God my 2 have outgrown it.

My son has become a SpongeBob fanatic and has always liked the old ScoobyDoo cartoons.

This thread reads like a foreign language to me with the exception of a couple of shows that I've heard of: Sponge Bob and Dora the Explorer (And who didn't like Maraka on SNL better? Do you think Robert Blake was guilty?)

I was in my early teens when my first wave of niece and nephews were watching kids shows. Nothing could touch the allsomeness that was The Electric Company, produced by the Children's Television Workshop. It was great, and it introduced the world to an actor named Morgan Freeman. Even today, when I see him in a movie, my mind says, "There's Easy Reader."

I wish Animaniacs would come back to television. The characters were cute and cuddly, so kids liked them, but the dialog was definitely for grownups.

There are some modern cartoons that are actually pretty good. Iron Man is one of them. I record that one, Wolverine X-Men, and Transformers to watch with my kid....then I get to zip through the commercials to keep him from dreaming about sugar infused snacks and everything toy related that he doesn't have. Not too high on the transformers, very anime, but the kid absolutely loves it.

For the Dora haters, especially those who have not seen the SNL's "Maraka", hit the link! I think you will like it.

"Can you tell me why my father left me?" HA!

No love for Jack's Big Music Show? Any show with a character named Sheldon the Angry Squirrel is OK in my book.

My 3 year old as grown attached to Ni Hao Kai Lan.

The Fresh Beat Band (aka The Jumparounds) are an abortion.

I long for the days when I was a kid (a very long time ago) when we had these shows that defined "greatness"

- The Bugs Bunny / Road Runner Show
- The Banana Splits Club
- The Monkees

My kids , even today, enjoy watching Bugs Bunny, and old Tom and Jerry stuff. Most of the stuff today makes you want to kick a puppy, But I do find myself on occation watching:
- Mickey Mouse Club House
- Handy Manny
- That smokin lady who sings..."all aboard the choo choo train, all aboard, all aboard"

My kids absolutely love "Phineas and Ferb," and watch "Nee-hao kai lan," "Wonder Pets," "Handy Manny," "Little Einsteins" and "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse."

However, nothing holds their attention like "Spongebob" and nothing makes them laugh harder than good old "Tom and Jerry."

The only show I forbid them to watch is "Max & Ruby."

No one had mentioned "Mighty B" yet? It's fairly new, but it's VERY good. It's done by Amy Pohler (SNL, Parks and Recreation), and it's very smart, and very funny, IMO.

I have a 4 and a 5 yr old (both boys), and their faves are:

Spongebob
Fairly Oddparents
Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
Imagination Movers
Penguins of Madagascar

I've even gotten them to watch some of "my" cartoons on Boomerang like Huckleberry Hound, The Jetsons, and The Flintstones. Boomerang used to show the old Looney Toons cartoons, but stopped for some reason. They are available on DVD, though.
