Carpet Cleaning Service

I need to get my carpets cleaned. I know on 610 in Houston they always advertise a good, cheap carpet cleaner, but I can't remember the name. Also, if anyone else has other recommendations would be great. The carpet is Berber, and I don't know if that makes any difference to the different cleaning methods.

Question. Are you expecting to remove anything other than normal dirt? I can tell you there's not a service alive that can get dog piss outta carpet. It only raises it to the surface where it really discolors later. Just thought I'd get that off my chest after every company in Houston has lied to us about getting "pet stains" out.

yeah, we have two dogs who decided the carpet was the new bathroom, and once they do it the first time, they can always smell it and go back later. It's good to know that pet stains don't come out. I'll start looking for new carpet now.

Thanks!

Dirt Free Carpet is the company you're thinking of that advertises on 610 AM. We've used them twice (carpets and couch) and have been extremely pleased.

Here's a link to their website:The Link

For pet piss stains use a 90/10 water and vinegar solution as soon as you notice the stain. It neutralizes the piss smell and color. Works great.

For pet puke use a 90/10 water and amonia solution. Works great.

thanks for the info and Dirt Free.

Unfortunately, I didn't know about the 90/10 solutions before, so its probably too late now. I will definitely keep them in mind for future stains though.

TXHorns, did you have any pet stains? That's pretty much the only reason we need the carpets cleaned. If it works with pet stains, I'm all for it as opposed to buying new carpet.

I've been using a Hartz carpet product for pet stains with great success. I've usually been able to get them fresh, so I'm not sure how well it will work if the stain has set. We've never had to have a pro out, though.

we use Nature's Miracle on the pet accidents at my house... comes in a white bottle with red lettering... just dump it liberally all over the pee/puke spot after cleaning up as much as you can...

HH-
We didn't have any pet stains on the carpets, but they cleaned a rug that my wife's Sheltie had claimed as her personal toilet and it came out great.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will have someone come out and do one room to see how it does. If it works, then I'll let them do the rest.

The problem is many times, either we aren't around, or the dog sneaks off upstairs (where we don't go very often) and so it has a chance to set.

I've also found that Berber carpet is a real pain in the *** to clean up. I will definitely try the other products mentioned for spot removal in the future, but at this point I think its either the cleaning works or its new carpet. Plus, now that the dogs are used to the new house, carpet etc., the accidents only happen when they are true accidents, and not because they think its the right place to go to the bathroom.

HH....
if you think you need to replace the carpeting, then look into putting a pet barrier under whatever new carpeting you get... we did this in our new home... basically it is a thin plastic that gets adhered to the top of the carpet pad.... this keeps and dog pee/fluids etc from soaking down into the pad... a simple shampoo or cleaning of the carpet and it is all gone... usually that lingering smell in a carpet is from the padding...

this only cost $1/sq yd more I believe... I think it is worth the piece of mind.. luckily for us we haven't had the issue yet.. for some reason the dogs would rather pee on our rugs than the carpeting..

How much per square yard does it generally cost to replace carpet and the underlying padding? I am putting the house up for sale but I need to replace carpet in one room that my dogs decided to use as their toilet.
